Nong Khiaw is a super relaxing place about 4 hours north of Luang Prabang. There are busses going here quite frequently. Nong Khiaw serves as a local tourist hub by now for any hiking trips to the surroundings (there are some tour operators along the main street) or for transfers further north (all of them by boat). It can be unbearably hot in summer, but this place is still worth a visit and nothing compared to very busy Luang Prabang. Don't miss the overlook south-east of Nong Khiawit's a rather steep 1 hour walk, but one of the best views I've had in South East Asia!

Lovely Village at the Nam Ou River. Dont miss the beautiful viewpoint overlooking the river (1 hour up, very steep)
