Favorite in Luang Prabamg. The vegetarian options are delicious (from the green elephant) and the non veg as well, varying from delicious french food to typical Lao food. Great setting, great atmosphere

During my first day in Luang Prabang, I heard that one could get good French food in the ancient capital of Laos. And this restaurant was recommended by the residence reception. Quite easy to find in a 1960s colonial building. The architecture and setting was quaint and relaxing. The menu was in English, French and Laotian. We ordered Braised Duck and Mustard Rabbit. Each dish had its delightful points. Overall, it was good, and agreeable with me. The portions were generous. The staff were attentive, sometimes a little over attentive. Overall very positive experience!

L'Elephant may well be highly-rated and hugely-popular but ultimately it is overpriced, overrated and just plain awful. The food and decor are both outdated and a perfect example of a restaurant resting on its undeserved reputation. The only passable dish was a rustic-style pate, meanwhile a steak tartare was terribly bland and a coq au vin was the complete opposite of the hearty and succulent French classic - the chicken took a lot of sawing to get off the bone which is less than ideal!

The flavors blended really well and we enjoyed our dinner. The hashbrown that came with the Mekong perch has got to be the best I’ve ever had - it’s crispy on the outside and very fine. The duck was moderately tender and perch juicy, but could have been / would have preferred both to be cooked 2-3 minutes less. Overall, a great dining experience - a little pricey - would recommend.

If I could give it more stars I would. Most of Laos food wise was a bit of a let down. But not here. Wow. Lovely service. Accommodating. Quick food. Lovely gin. The food was one of the best I've eaten from a restaurant in a long while. I recommend the pork and garlic mash. With either onion or pumpkin soup to start. Fabulous..would eat there every day if I could. A tad expensive in comparison to local restaurants. 145000 for pork dish. But sooo worth it. Especially coming from an accomplished home cook. X

Very elegant, excellent French and Lao cuisine. Attentive service.

The menu is extensive and can be confusing. I recommend the prix fixe menus.

The wine selection is a little limited, but could be a condition of market access.

If you are dining early, make a reservation. The crowd thins out after 8pm.

We had dinner in this elegant restaurant. I was anxious they would not be able to give us good veg/vegan choices and would be way overpriced as well. To my delight, the waiters were attentive and courteous. We chose the vegetarian and vegan set menus. Each course was served together, despite my husband's menu being different from mine. The meal was hearty and satisfying with attention to detail. Such a classy place! Worth the high price.

I went out looking for a beer, and I found a great deal more.
First night here and I find a very sharp, well oiled machine designed to (willingly I preface) separate me from my shekels.
Wow, it nails it all for decor, service, ambiance, choice and authentic high quality French cuisine.
Add in the superb wine list and I'm a sucker for more
Just know it's western prices but I can say it's worth it
Well done guys, to have these standards it is a sign of experience and dedication, keep it up!

Food here was excellent. True authentic French cooking. Staff was very accommodating and ready to assist when needed.
There's two places: Original corner lot - fans and open dining; Traditional Restaurant - aircond dining, quieter setting. Both places are right next to each other.

This is a pretty posh place with prices quoted higher than other establishments. In saying that the French cuisine here is good. I had a medium rare buffalo steak with French herb butter. Very nice. Very tender. You might not even believe that it's buffalo. There is a heavy hint of the meat being gamey but then again so is beef. The atmosphere is very rustic with wood and rattan as decor. Give this place a try if you are in town. Happy travels.

Best Steak i ever had in Luang Prabang. Western & Lao food fine Restaurant. With very friendly and helpfully staffs. It's a bit hard to find and a bit far away from the city walking area. Take a tuck tuck.
This place is not cheap but i like to pay a little more when the food and service is in balance.

Very good dishes and excellent wine selection.
A bit on the expensive side. You can find lovely restaurants in Prapang that cost way less but it is still worth every penny. Excellent vibe & atmosphere. Make a reservation

Beautiful fusion of Laos and French food styles. Large wine list, lovely well trained staff to help convey the above average dining experience, all at a very reasonable price. "Most expensive restaurant in town" is what I heard, but if you come from a western capital city, there's nothing scary about that at all. It's still great value and beautiful food. Worth making a booking for, maybe as you walk by earlier the previous day.

Pricy but very good quality. Nice wine selection. Fresh yummy food for all palets. Very friendly staff. Easy to find, easy to get to. I had the mushroom ravioli and it was delightful, my mother had the duck and was very happy. Definitely worth a visit.

Still one of the best restaurants in Luang Pabang. Great food and food choice, good atmosphere attentive staff (although at times too many of them). Unfortunately this venue is recommended by a lot of hotels that have their guests shuttled here by mini-vans that than drop them off with their engines running fuming the place with their unfiltered diesel fumes. Price - quality probably the best in town.

A really good restaurant, perhaps or likely the best in the city. Highly recommended for at least one dinner while you are here. Service was impeccable.
