It stands on the waters of lake Victoria, the second largest fresh water lake in the world. The island harbours over 10 000 bird species that attracts thousands of tourists every year. The major economic activity for the locals is fishing and horticultural farming. Rusinga island is also the home of human origin( the skulls of zinjanthropus was discovered here by the great archeologist - Dr. Richard Leakey) . The small protruding hills and Stones show volcanic activity that took place at a time that even our ancesters did not witness. There are several beach clubs, hotels and restaurants to accommodate any number of tourists both local and international.

Watch the fishermen bring the days catch and women sun drying the fish. In the evening, watch the community play football by the lake. And did I say, you can watch the best sunset in the world here!
