Amazing house and land. Every nook has a story associated. The guides do a great job of transporting you to a romantic era. Must visit place in nairobi.

You can access the museum either using Ngong Rd or Langata Rd. If you want to use public means (Matatu) you will take Citti Hoppa number 24 either from Kencom or Ambassador which will charge you less than a dollar (Ksh70). Its located 18KM from Nairobi CBD.

We asked to go in but 12€ It was enough for us (we were about to depart with not much money).
So we rested one hour outside the Park, in front of the house, and none says nothing to us.

After One hour a Guardian (female, Little oversized) said to us that if we not pay the ticket , we Will not able to go away (as a menace, prisonners).

After ten minute we explained that we rested outside the Park house, in wide space and in front all the staff without none says nothing, She asked 10€ kes ti let leave us away (but without pay the ticket, ad a corruption)

If you have read or watched Out of Africa, it's worth a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum at least once. You will receive a guided tour from a knowledgeable guide and get in-depth information about the house and the grounds. The landscaping is pleasant and there is a nice walking trail in the woods. The interior of the house is set up to replicate the way that it looked when Karen lived there. The gift shop is nothing special and over-priced compared to other local vendors.

Was actually very interesting. You get your own guide who tells you all about Karen & then takes you around her house.
We haven't seen 'Out of Africa' the film!! but will now be watching it & now with a new perspective.

“A piece of Colonial History”

We knew about Karen Blixen. We heard about the book "out of Africa". My brother told us to read it before reaching Kenya, but had not got chance of reading it, before coming to Kenya. So thought about spending some time over there at her house in Nairobi.

The entrance fee is bit stiff but a guide comes along with that, these are local students and are knowledgeable. We had a nice young girl with us who took us around and provided a good account of the life of Karen Blixen.

It is interesting to imagine the life and time of her. Ms. Blixen sold of the house and left the country. The house was bought back in 1964 by the Danish government, fully restored, created the atmosphere of her time and given to the Kenyan government as an independence gift.

We enjoyed the entire compound, the house, out house and the the defunct coffee factory in the other side. The ambience will take you back to almost 100 years. Best to enjoy leisurely.

If you've ever heard this "I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills." before and loved the story or movie or book "Out of Africa" very much, this museum is definitely a must-see place for you. Otherwise, this site may be just like an old house of british-colony-period but it still worth paying a visit.
