A journey into the history and heritage of Kenya. Well maintained museum and a good walk down memory lane. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The best part is the human fossil exhibit as kenya is a treasure trove as far as this is concerned. Take your time to savour the permanent as well as special exhibitions on display.

This is more of a natural history and heritage as opposed to an art museum. By the time you're done you'll know a lot more about the people, animals and history of Kenya. A must visit for anybody in Nairobi.

Completely enjoyed my visit to this museum. They had 9 galleries encompassing everything from history, anthropology, animal kingdom, Kenyan tradition and more. You can get a tour guide to show you around free of charge, who was very good and knowledgeable, and I tipped very well. There are several gift shops, a restaurant, a small garden, and a snake display for an additional charge. It’s a very good visit.

I suggest coming here for two reasons:
1. If it is your first trip to Kenya and not have much time, this museum will teach you a huge amount of knowledge on this fabulous country.
2. If you are going to spend a lot of time in Kenya or are already knowledgeable, the museum will help you understand better some nuances or clarify some aspects that you missed.

I strongly suggest hiring a guide.
You can also buy modern art in the up floor.

I really enjoyed it here. I didn't have time to go to the paid areas. But I walked around the botanical garden and ate at the delicious eatery there. There is also a walkway nearby. It was one of the most tranquil experiences I had in Nairobi.

What a superb National Museum this is, it does Kenya proud.
Been there 3 times, lots to see. There's an additional Snake Park at extra cost which is well worth visiting. The attached cafe/kiosk is pricey for what it's worth.
Annoyed that on one occasion I was asked to pay a tourist price entry fee (which I hate there being different prices dependant on skin colour). My wife managed to argue that I'm a resident and got a lesser price.
It's not so dear overall, if you have money to spend then expect a fascinating time. Highly recommended.

An amazing place for the whole family worth a a good visit. Full of stuff to juice up your day. Probably a good idea to carry a drink around though. Its quite a walk around the place with all the interests captivating all the way

Big museum, you need a few hours to go through it all. For a geek like me, it was a orgasmic few hours. Best museum I've been to. You can even rent a guide for an extra charge, though every installation is so well explained you don't need one. The bird section and the wildlife models are impressive but the one that amazed me the most were the pre human (home habalis, home erected, Neanderthal etc) skeleton/skull collection

Perfect place for a relaxing Sunday. Definitely go with someone and arrive early. I'd say the latest you should get there is 12pm because there is a lot of stuff to see.

Amazing to learn about the history of Kenya and Nairobi as well as all the animals and tribes that call Kenya home. Make sure you check out the Snake Park and all the cool reptiles they have there. The gift shops are super expensive and so is the museum if you're not a resident.

National museum.rich cultural resource. Snake park was also great experience and it's within the museum.

You can carry your snacks as if our on picnic or choose to eat from the hotels within.
Children will also enjoy it, and there's lots of learning for all ages as well as adults.

A must visit location if you are in Nairobi. Whether you are a local or a tourist, there is always something worth learning here. I particularly like their botanical garden space. It is surprisingly peaceful even though the museum is right next to the highway.

This is a heritage site with a lot of informative and historic items. It is suitable for both locals and foreigners who desire to see Kenya and learn all at once. The full entrance package provides access to the Museum and also the snake park.

Started all the way back in 1929, the Nairobi National Museum depicts a clear picture of Kenya's rich heritage(Contemporary art, Nature, History, Culture etc). The museum is located at the Museum Hill, less than 15 minutes drive from Nairobi City Center. the museum comprises of botanical gardens, dining facilities and a variety of shopping facilities as part of the museum environs.

Great place to learn about Kenyan history, geography and wildlife. If a visitor, pass through here for a quick rundown of what Kenya has to offer. If a local, pass through to expand your view of your country. Either way, loads to see, and learn.

Awesome museum. Great collection of East African birds. Come learn Kenyan history, lots to see, lots to do. Allow at least 4 hours to really soak it in. Best to come with someone familiar with Kenyan cultural heritage. Great pricing, especially if you get a combo ticket with the snake park.

The museum always makes for a lovely outing! The ticketing system now looks like a subway system where you scan the bar coded ticket to access the different places. They issue one ticket eve for several people. There is a new addition to the snake park, a very belligerent viper!

The gallery is just one spot you can visit; did you know the Museums have a state of the art auditorium - The Louis Leakey Auditorium that is available for the general public? Did you know that they house of one of the largest biodiversity collection in Africa? Now you know.. its time to take a walk to the NMK.

The Museum is really well organized and well maintained. The only issue I have seen is that it's very little compared to what I expected. Good for high school history, but not sufficient for higher years.

It's been years since I was last here, and back then I was a kid who didn't understand the beauty of it all. Today was amazing, walking down Kenyan history and learning about animals I had no idea existed. The museum is very well maintained too, with the renovation giving it a great look and new exhibitions. Would recommend it to anyone. Will totally go back too.
