Great hosts, thanks John and Junia.
We were travelling as a group. We had a Masai welcome dance and welcome drinks, then sat for the barbeque dinner. Awesome! It would not be a night without cake. The staff came out and we sung the ‘Jambo Bwana' song as we shared cake.
Then we headed to bed. The tents are Wow - call them mini palace. The beds so large with hot water bottles. The bathroom amenities are just so thoughtful - everything you would need is right there. The hot shower pressure and temperature was just right.
The views from the tents with sunrise are to die for. We visited other tents, and each has a unique view. Just didn't get agree which was better.
Then we did a tour of the facility. Everything is a master piece! Best part is how they are mindful of the environment and local community in all their activities. And the highlight was the organic garden - no wonder the salads were so fresh!
Then their safari vehicles!
The sundowner location has the most magical view in the Mara!

Stunning lodges near the top of the Oloololo Escarpment, facing the sunrise, with beautiful grounds and main lodge area. Food is excellent, and the view from the restaurant looking down into the Maasai Mara is incredible. Many of the vegetables you eat will be grown in the lodge's own gardens at the very top of the escarpment. The ride up and down from the lodge to the park is steep and stunning, requiring a six-wheel military vehicle (quite an experience in itself). You can opt for a sunset drink at the very top of the Escarpment for an unforgettable experience.

We stayed for two nights at the Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge and the stay was an amazing experience. Mara Engai is located on top of the escarpment and the view from the rooms as well as the dining area is breathtaking (one can witness the beautiful sunrise from the dining area). The rooms are huge and very well furnished. Their shower is a novelty and standing beneath it you'll feel that you are standing underneath a waterfall. They have a good range of food and beverages and the sundowner is a great time to mingle with the other guests and the lodge staff. The staff is extremely hospitable and friendly and they look after you as one looks after a family member.
Since the lodge is atop the escarpment they use Pinzgauer trucks (these were originally made for the Swiss Army) to ferry passengers to the lodge and even for the game drives. The trucks are sturdy and can easily go up the escarpment and can even wade their way through deep muddy tracks (I saw Range Rovers skidding through muddy tracks or finding it difficult to climb up the escarpment, but not these Pinzgauers). The Mara Engai guides were pretty good with the game drives and we had a good time with them.
The one thing that can be improved upon is the size of the rooms because presently, they are a bit too huge. Something can be done to make them cosier. Otherwise, right from hospitality to food to game drives and other activities I would give Mara Engai, a thumbs up. Happy to be a part of the Mara Engai family.response / report this review -
