江戸期には虚空蔵ヶ岳とも呼ばれた修験道の聖山であり、今も頂上に小さな祠が残っている。景色はこちら側の方が良い。登山口となる由良には「山庄太夫」の伝説があり、森鴎外の小説『山椒太夫』となっている。虚空蔵菩薩もこちら側の山頂にある。由良方面からは、登山者が少なく道が荒れているので迷わないよう注意。熊にも注意。

Quiet hike up the mountain. About 650m above sea level. There's a part towards the end without any real trail so it's a little confusing. Takes about 4-5 hours to get up and down
