We had a good stay at the Granbell. As reported the hotel is a slightly strange neighbourhood surrounded by love hotels. We never once felt uncomfortable walking to the hotel. Interaction with staff was good, English was spoken well and everyone was very helpful. We booked a standard double, this was about the minimum size suitable for two with luggage. It was very clean and quiet. The rooftop bar has amazing views but when we visited had a 500yen cover charge.

Overall was a pleasant stay albeit an emergency stay as we did not plan on staying in Tokyo that night. We booked online 15 mins prior to arrival and the room was ready when we got there! Rooms were small but well equipped as expected from Tokyo but we're very clean and comfortable. Would stay again!

Very comfortable tiny room. Blackout curtains kept potentially bright and noisy neighborhood at bay. Comfortable bed and nice bathtub. The true standout for us was the service. Concierges all spoke English and went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable. I had a minor medical issue while staying here and one staff member not only gave directions to the hospital, but also called the hospital to make sure they could treat me, translated and wrote down my symptoms so that hospital staff would understand the issue, and gave us advice on when to arrive and who to talk to. The lobby is full of personalized information on local restaurants and attractions with prices, hours of operation, and other useful information (something that was often challenging without Japanese language skills). The room was a comfortable size for two. The staff are very pleasant and the front desk has English speaking employees to assist us, as I'm sure they provide as many language speaking employees as possible. They also provide a tasty breakfast buffet as well as delicious dinner options. We would definitely use this hotel again for it's services in the future.

October 29 was raining all day due to approaching Typhoon. We were wet because of a long walk to the hotel. We arrived at this hotel just before 12:00, when Receptionist did not allowed us to the room, so we asked her to keep our baggage till we returned.
After we arrived at the Hotel after 4pm, we found they did not bring our baggage into the room, rather, we had to carry them by ourselves.
We visited Club Lounge on the 13th floor where only a few drinks and just a little bit snacks were served.
It showed “happy hour” between 5 pm to 7 pm while however nothing “happy” was served except a few drinks including red wine AFTER 5:30, so, Club Lounge did not pay at all.
Room was a bit small, but chic and comfortable which wins two stars in my opinion.
Amenity goods in the room is nice and Tea server set is also a high taste which adds another star.
Breakfast was better than expected.
Although hospitality at Reception was a bit below standard, overall impression is fairly good, however, we may not visit this hotel again.response / report this review -

Bed lined has many small hairs on it when we arrived - looks like it hasnt been changed from previous guest. Close to the subway. Bathroom is clean. The room we got is very small even by Japan standard.

Location is close to everything you need to experience Tokyo for the first time. Don't let the map full you, you are in the center of Kabuki-cho (red light district), but that's not a bad thing. Area is clean and safe to walk around at any time of day or night. You will not see any lady "workers" out. The main train station is about a 10-15 minutes walk, but you will enjoy the sights as you head over to it. You can taxi it everywhere, but I recommend getting a train card, instead of a daily ticket, since not all trains use the same ticket or fare. The staff are excellent, even if their English is not 100%, they will help in any way possible. The rooms are small compared to US or European standards, but you will not be spending much time in the room. Tokyo has so much to do, that you will not be stuck in your small/standard Japan room. Also, they have amenities that are similar to brand hotels like Marriott or Hilton, just at a smaller scale. You will not regret staying at this hotel. - A FIRST TIME TRAVELER TO TOKYO

AVOID BREAKFAST AT ALL COSTS! Our room (an economy twin) was clean and well appointed but very small - definitely no room to swing a cat, let alone unpack your suitcase (which is fine if you're only staying a night or two). The reception staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good English, and the rooftop bar was a nice, quiet place for a late evening drink. It's a little walk from Shinjuku station (10-15 mins) down some slightly seedy streets (though I didn't feel unsafe at any point). Sadly my impression of the hotel was somewhat ruined when I went down to breakfast. It was truly the stuff of nightmares - no-one to greet you or show you to your table or bring you fresh coffee (we had to fight our way in, clear some dirty trays and wipe down the table (and chairs) ourselves), and a BUFFET OF DOOM. The quality and selection of food was really awful - I forced down a couple of dry bits of bread to stave off my immediate hunger then fled as quickly as I could. Otherwise it seemed like a nice hotel, which made it all the more disappointing (especially since it was hardly cheap!).

Location was a bit tricky, but easy to get to by cab. Bedding was good and generous toiletries provided. Food is barely above average in most cases. Easy access to rooms. Loft ladder and rail needs a bit more support to keep people from falling.

It's a nice hotel, rooms are modern, clean and have good facilities.
For Tokyo and in this price range we had a good size room and bathroom.
Bathroom was modern and had a washlet electric toilet which was fun.
The staff were very nice and let us check in early.
In terms of location, its a bit of a walk but is fairly near some nice districtsresponse / report this review
