Great place to learn about buddism.
The permanent exhibition of Buddhist statues is worth visiting, but the special exhibition is not worth it unless you are a scholar.
Should be renamed the Nara Buddhism Museam. Stay away unless you have a strong interest in Buddhism. Full of Buddha statues in barely different poses. The audio guide is useless for those without enough background in Buddhism. Also be aware that the delicious pancakes in the cafe sell out by 3.
exceptionally rich collection of Buddhist sculptures from the Asuka to the Kamakura period in the well renovated old Meiji museum built in the Western style. good English audio guide.
the cafe serves excellent pancakes, i'm a pancake aficionado and has tasted pancakes across Osaka. the pancake served in this humble cafe beats it all, hands down.
An amazing look into the Buddhist history of Japan with many artefacts going as far back as the 8th century. Worth the price of entrance (especially if you are a university student).
A beautiful museum with changing exhibitions. When I was there it was an exhibition focused on Buddha.
Fine museum, maybe a little small
Great museum, the history of this building and unusual architecture for this area is a story in itself.
