The temple is solemn and beautiful.The temple grounds, structure and surroundings are magnificent and the giant buddha is amazing! The temple is also being surrounded by many deers that you can also feed and it's also crowded not just with tourists but also with students on fieldtrip. It-s definitely a must-see temple and a great place to visit in Nara!

Very old temple full of dears (the animal) people enjoying giving food and petting it, as usual con enjoy some local delicacies, houses the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha, temple complex that was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples

An excellent buddhist temple with excellent architecture and sculptures. Situated in Nara Park with beautiful grounds and lots of deer. They tend to be aggressive. Great place to visit in Nara for families. Expect a big crowd.

A must see in Nara. Stunningly beautiful, and much grander than any picture can do justice. Tour groups do fill the area quickly and I would recommend an early visit, or around midday when some school groups have left.
Breathtaking and humbling to be in the presence of this remarkable feat of human craftsmanship. The building itself is worth a visit, but then you see the statue!response / report this review -

An extremely beautiful place to visit, although it can be very crowded during peak visiting times. There are wild deer in the lead up to the entrance and the areas are kept very clean. The Todai-ji itself is incredible to see in person and the grounds are kept very clean and tidy. Lots of great touristy gifts to buy at the gift shops. There are plaques in English that explain some of the extra displays inside the temple. I would highly recommend a visit here! (be careful of the deer though! They can get a bit nippy if you have food)

Beautiful place. The temple itself is amazing considering its age. Even if you are not into the religion, do go in and appreciate the building and the mega size statues inside it. Need to pay a fee to get in but I think it is reasonable considering all the work they did to maintain it.

Amazing temple that houses the largest statue of Buddha in Japan, which is about 15 meters in height. The name Tōdaiji (東大寺) means the Great Eastern Temple and this is also one of the landmarks of Nara which has been built in 752 as the head temple of all provincial temples of Japan. Another standout of Todaiji is its Buddha hall. This is said to be the largest wooden building of the world. Entrance to the temple costs 500 Yen per person, but its absolutely worth visiting.

A beautiful temple with marvellous statue. We suggest you to bring your void passport (if there are blank pages in your void passport) because there are unique stamps provided inside the temple. And you can stamp your void passport freely.

It's a place worth visiting once. Entrance to the temple and Buddha is charged. It would be nice to have a guide to get to know more about the place. The great Buddha within the temple is spectacular, quite a sight to see. Pity that there were construction going on at the time, which obstructed the beautiful view of the temple.
