    The outdoor onsen is amazing.
You need to take a 5 min cable car ride down to the onsen.
    Lovely

I visited just the outdoor Onsen, didnt stay overnight. The drive out here is very scenic, but don't do it if you're not comfortable driving on very narrow, partly singled laned mountain roads. Often when meeting another car one of you has to reverse. The onsen was stunning, accessed via cable car. Lovely views of the gorge and river, very peaceful and calming experience. The staff spoke good English. Didnt try the food but it looked excellent. Worth the journey if you are able to make it.

Unique spot surrounded by moutains and forests of the Iya Valley. Even if the inside bath is not interesting, the outside bath is very unique and gorgeous. The cable car trip in itself is worth it. We had dinner and breakfast included in the price, there was so much local food!! However, we thought it was a bit expensive but we enjoyed the experience. The bedroom is huge and very comfortable.

Stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed them tremendously. Food is so different with something like organic vegetables and sorts of meat prepared in delicious and non fatty way. The outdoor onsen at the bottom of the mountain is fabulous. Enjoyed every hour of this relaxing and quiet ryokan. Will return one day.

So beautiful, peaceful and tranquil that we're trying to extend another night. Wonderful service, exquisite dinner, and the baths! By the river, in the hotel, or in the room. I can barely stay dry! And we're foreigners feeling so welcomed and career for here. The staff do a wonderful job. Thankyou so much.

They have better food than a very highly rated Kyoto Ryokan.

I would give this 4.5 stars but Google didn't allow the half. Reserved room 505 for two nights. Amazing room with outdoor shower and bath. Staff is incredible. Quiet and relaxing. Journey to get to Onsen is really fun. My only complaint is that out room is next to tram that takes you to river but it's not a huge deal breaker just a bit 😑
