Ryokan is a little dated but feels authentic. The staff are kind and considerate. They kindly took our heavy luggage up to our room when we dropped it off earlier in the day. It feels like a ryokan with the tatami mats but you can tell parts of the place are many years old and could do with some repair.
Ryoukan, the regular kind with Tatami beds. Lovely old inn with superb breakfast. Most rooms have attached bathrooms with a public bath downstairs. Very near the heritage district with all the sake breweries. Also very close to Hidagyu Maruaki restaurant - must go.
Interesting way to welcome guests. The facilities are a little bit old fashioned however I feel very cosy here. Please do not expect amenities like other 3 or 4 stars hotels but enjoy the quiteness of this place.
The place is a bit older. Amenities were minimal and the bathhouse is small. Quite expensive for what it is, had much better ryokan experience elsewhere. But location was convenience as it is near Takayama station.
Very good typical hotel. Staff and room are perfect. Very good experience. I recommend it
Lovely staff, great room with a view to garden and lake. Warm and cozy, Hida beef for dinner!
The staff is not that friendly like the comments on Internet, especially to individual costumers. But the building is really nice as local culture
Nice and clean place in japanese style, first try of public bath, so relax and cosy.
Wouldn't serve breakfast without reservation. I booked a room 2 months out, with breakfast, but apparently had to reserve a time slot ahead of time for breakfast. After disclosing this, they made no effort to accommodate us or help the situation.
Other than that, it was a great place, otherwise I'd give a lower overall rating. The baths were nice and the room was comfortable and well furnished.
This Rican (apologies is I spelt that wrong) is a traditional Japanese style hotel, complete with public hot baths and shower areas and low seated mattress and rice paper doors and windows. The place itself is very nicely presented although a little dark but gives off a traditional Japanese atmosphere. The hotel staff are incrediblely nice and speak good English. Overall the Rican is an incredible stay for a few nights but I wouldent recommend more if you are a tall person like me.
