Solo traveller, and got their single room.

The Room: spacious, traditional Japanese experience, clean. The futon was so comfortable I would have loved to sleep in some more in it; but I did have to get out there and see the sites. That was arranged in one half of the room. The other half had a table with two chairs to sit, and an open area. There was plenty of space to put your luggage, and not feel cramped whatsoever- good value in comparison to other lodgings in Kyoto where things are a bit more of a squeeze. There were also maybe 3-4 other rooms on my floor, and sliding the door shut was good enough to muffle the noise and ensure privacy and a good night's sleep.

Amenities: I brought an extra towel as previous reviewers complained that the provided towels are small. However, the towels they provided were good enough! So I wasted space in my luggage for nothing. I got a big towel, as well as two medium sized ones for my face or other. Nothing to worry about, so leave space in your luggage for other things. There are 2 showers, and yes there were times both were occupied. But I didn't have to wait more than 20 minutes for one. 4 stalls for the toilet which is enough- never had to wait for that. Hot water worked plenty, and water pressure was great. No complaints in the bathroom department. If you see pictures of that shower room with two showerheads in it; don't worry you won't be showering with other people; as you can lock the door if it's just you and have the room to yourself; this was perfectly acceptable and everyone there did just that (might be ok for couples or families though). Internet worked great, no complaints. Vending machine right in the lobby! And unlike other vending machines on the street, this had beer =D

Location: only a 10-15 minute walk to JR Kyoto Station, in a relatively straight line, so if this is a priority, you can be rest assured that you are close to a major train station. The alley that contains the Inn is quiet and safe (as is Kyoto in general). a good choice of places to eat within a 10-minute walking radius.

Staff/family: welcoming, accommodating, relaxed, and friendly!
