A place where you could experience yourself as a real Japanese. You will also understand their religions and culture here through taking the cemetry tour. It's an eye opener for those who wish to understand how the monks in the mountains. Thus, you will get to taste the delicious of vegetarian food!

Fantastic experience. Lots shared by knowledgeable monks.
Arrived just in time for meditation session at 1630. Meal served after. Tofu based but such a variety of flavours.
Followed by a night walk through the local cemetery. Follow and listen to the guide no matter how big the group is. Lots of nuggets of interesting info.
Morning meditation and wow factor fire experience from 0630 followed by breakfast.
Monks on hand throughout. Well worth the deroute from Osaka.

I definitely recommend this place, learn about the history of Buddhism in Japan. In Ekoin, you live with the monk. Food is vegetration. There is an onsen that you can shower in- small in size. You can also go for a night cemetery tour for 1500 yen. This place is for you to relax from the busy city live

Went there for a night visit at mount koya cemetery. The guide, a monk at ekoin, gave every explanation needed. At the end, the even took us to our lodjes at another temple a nice experience indeed

Beautiful temple and grounds. Staff was amazing, food was amazing, night tour of the cemetery was amazing. Absolutely worth a trip. Bring something warm in winter and get ready to rise early if you want to take part in the ceremonies. Highly recommended.

Not cheap, but cool experience. Rooms were nice and very authentic. Food was good and had great presentation (you eat in your room). The morning prayer and fire ceremony was fantastic but soured a bit because they allowed cameras and idiots using their iPads in a dark room kind of ruined the vibe. I really, really hope they ban all cameras for the morning services so flashes and click noises don't take away from the experience. My only small complaint is the walls are very thin and I could hear people moving around from around 4am until morning. So bring earplugs.
