Bit of a strange place. Top end prices but very limited facilities in the rooms/caves. Ours had no shower, was very dark (the cleaners use head torches!) and sections of stone floor that were painful to walk on barefoot. No natural light at all. Other rooms do have windows and showers so it's worth checking when you book. I can see how others love it but may not be for everyone.

Bucket list!!! a Must stay and do in Matera, spending the night in a cave in Matera was incredible, the service and set up of the room was incredible beautiful, the breakfast is served in the cave church.. Matera is just an amazing and beautiful ancient city, it is one of the oldest cities in europe you got to do it!

Words cannot possibly describe the city of caves as well as staying in an actual cave hotel suite filled with everything one could want. Matera is going to become a huge tourist destination as in 2019 it is a European Capital of Culture. See it now and stay at this hotel before it's too late.

An absolute brilliant luxury hotel in the cave city Matera. We had a room with a bathtub next to the bed and the main themes were simplicity, silence and well-being I would say. Breakfast was authentic for a cave hotel (in a positive way) and the hotel staff did a fantastic job. Best hotel stay in my life!

One of the nicest hotels in such a lovely setting in Matera.
Staying true to the original caves as much as they can provides a wonderful experience.
Ask the hotel for car parking as its much safer than trying to do it yourself in the non metered parts of the city.
No restaurant but Matera has plenty which the hotel can advise on.
There sister hotel is also really worth a stay.
