This waterfall is tucked away at Thingvellir National Park. You must take a few sets of stairs to access it and once you have, you will be highly impressed. Beautiful views here and worth the short hike.
Natural wonder of the world. Excellent views and relaxing walk. Minimal impact on the environment as a result of the tourist attraction. Only reason for 4 stars is that I personally got a “oh it’s all the bloody same” vibe as I walked around, but that’s just because there are naturally beautiful sights literally everywhere in Iceland.
Would still recommend :).
It was nice. A two layer waterfall with a quick walkway from parking number 2. The surrounding area also made the experience more interesting. Getting pictures mid to late afternoon adds to the drama of the waterfall. Don't go off the trails here, or you will quickly find yourself a park ranger.
Nice waterfall with good walking paths in its area. Even in winter it looks amazing. Would recommend it to anyone who is passing by. Parking spot is nearby and because most of the track is well maintained it is not muddy even in on the rainy days.
This waterfall is a nice attraction while touring Þingvellir National Park. I definitely recommend checking it out. It is a great place for a photo opportunity.
I visited in March of 2018.
This would be a great waterfall in most other countries, but in Iceland it just blends in as another waterfall. It is worth the trip if you parked in the lower lot and it is cool that it is between the cliffs, but if you are tight on time you may want to skip it and spend more time in other areas.
If you're in the area this is a must. Spectacular waterfall especially in the spring time when it's flowing fast. Some great photos to be had as well. The walk from the car park takes about 10 minutes but in the winter and spring can be quite icey. Crampons are a good idea but if you're careful you can do it with out them.
A beautiful waterfall. I would have loved to have been able to walk from the car park. We did go the opposite side and approach it from there though. Well worth the look, as are most places in this magical country.
Perfect and calming waterfall. Lots of water but the height difference isn't a lot making it a spray free place to see beautiful sights and mini rainbows
Super icy! Be SO careful on the way up and down in winter. View of frozen falls is pretty cool.
So pretty. Would love to go back one day
Crowded but interesting geo info about tectonic plate movements. Top tip take small change as the charge for tiolets.
Not that crowded near the end of November, the waterfall was frozen for 95% and it was pretty slippery as well but the view was breathtaking.
Very crowdy in August. The place itself is stunning of course. The highlight was spotting a polar fox.Very unexpected.
Really interesting place. Probably allow 1-2hrs for visit.
Lovely views from this location, the Waterfall worth the 10-15min extra walk.
Beautiful waterfall and surrounds. Well worth an explore. Easily accessible along the path and stairs.
You can take a nice walk from the parking lot number 5 to see the pingvellir lookout and the oxararfoss waterfall, the round trip takes approx. 1 hour. A very nice, powerful waterfall.
It's a smallish waterfall that is getting a lot of attention recently due to game of thrones, so it can be packed with tourist. Having said that, it is a beautiful waterfall with easy access when you visit the beautiful thingvellir site.
Splendid historical grounds! Easy to walk on. Many informative plaques making history come alive.
The unique rock walls that line the walk to Oxararfoss Waterfall were featured on Game of Thrones. The beautiful walkway ends at a short, intimate waterfall, with jagged triangle-shaped rocks I haven’t seen anywhere else in Iceland. I would recommend seeing Oxararfoss Waterfall on your way from Reykjavik to Gulfoss Falls. If you take the 36 north from Reykjavik (instead of route 1) you’ll drive right by it. The extra time spent here will be well worth your while.
You have to walk about 40 minutes to the waterfall from the bus stop. This area is in Historic National Park, so you can't walk straight to this waterfall. About 15 minutes from there you can see the Games of Throne shooting locations. You need to know the informations about the area so you can admire this amazing place.
One of must see at þingvellir. So beautiful waterfall. Just look at my photos.
Beautiful location with a lovely view of the water fall Öxarárfoss. Definitely should check it out if ever in the area! One thing to note is that there is a parking fee of about 400-500 ISK. There's other sights there too but this is easily the top one. Worth a visit as early as possible to not be crowded by tourists. Sun rise in the winter is usually around 9:50 am (we went in February)
Really nice photogenic little ( by Icelandic standards) waterfall. You need to pay a nominal fee for using the car park (here and in the other Pingvillir park car parks). But it looks great and you're walking down the split where the continents are moving apart. Info boards for the local area near the visitor centre back by the main road.
Stunning waterfall. In the snow I would recommend wearing boots with crampons or some with good grips. Totally worth it slipping on ice a couple of times though if all you've got are trainers. A packet of jaffa cakes should sustain you on the walk between the waterfall and the visitor centre.
A very nice waterfall. Although in winter I would highly recommend using the car park just east of the falls (visible on the map) which comes off the road "361". It is closer to the falls and much safer than the one a few hundred metres north which comes of the road "36" as the path from the north car park is very steep at places and was extremely icey when I visited and had people falling all over the place (and kids sliding down it for fun 😂).
