A bit difficult to get to than some of the more popular falls. Several Kms of dirt tracks & perhaps not as grand as the likes of Gulfoss but was an adventure.
Off the beaten track 4x4 needed but we'll worth the drive
We started hiking through the pebbles at the marker where Google leaves you. DON"T STOP THERE. Keep driving past the 'trailhead' and there will be a dirt/gravel (mostly dirt) road on the left with a street sign with "Þjófafoss" and "Skarfanes" on it. Take this by car right to the falls!! We had 2wd in summer and got there fine.
Very impressive falls.
Very impressive waterfalls
Not crowded, felt like discovering a secret. Very beautiful blue, and I saw hints of a rainbow near the falls.
Important thing to know is it's not easy to get here from a small car. Road to take you inside is all pebbles and drive inside is about 4 km. Bring bug spray and road ahead after this destination also is full of pebbles. Will come back with a 4x4
Þjófafoss or the "waterfall of thieves". Allegedly the waterfall got its name from the judiciary system in old Iceland, as thieves were thrown into the waterfall to finish their sentence.
Superbe ! Accessible par une petite route en cailloux praticable en petite voiture
