Just off to the side of Hallgrímskirkja sits an austere building that houses the national collection of Iceland’s foremost sculptor, Einar Jónsson, who specialised in dramatic figurative representations of local folklore and religious motifs.

Several impressively large sculptures occupy a ground floor atrium, with access to the artist’s private apartments on an upper floor also available.

An ornamental garden provides a home for more than 20 bronzes, if the weather permits.

4 stars b/c I only visited the sculpture garden in the back (open 24 hours) and didn't go in the museum. The work was amazing though I would have liked to go inside for more context. Works are labeled in Icelandic and English.

If you're in the area it's definitely worth it to wander in and take a look at these trippy sculpture's and it doesn't cost anything! We didn't go into the museum.

Absolutely amazing. Personally I think this is the best tourist attraction in Reykjavik. Undescribably impressive sculptures. You should visit here.

We only visited the (free) sculpture garden. Open 24 hours. And we loved it. Some very nice sculptures with a lot of symbolism. Sometimes a bit more explanation would have helped but the sculptures are very lovely. If you are at the church this is just next door and should not be missed.

An unexpectedly great museum, we only went in as the church was shut and thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so I would recommend it over the church.
The works inside are brilliant, eye catching and very clever, an exceptionally talented artist!
You also can see the originally lodgings of Jónsson and his wife at the top and also the architecture history of the building in its own right is pretty cool

There is no better (or cheaper) spot to take a date. Especially if you're dating a goth, because this place is a bit creepy.

I can not comment on the inside as it was 1000 krons, i decided not to go in. But there are lots of sculptures in the garden.

I can't actually comment on the inside of the museum (though during a quick walk to the restroom, it looked lovely), but the sculpture garden out back has free admission, interesting sculptures, and is a nice little spot for a picnic or stroll.
