One of the best gletsjers you can come along! You can go close and even walk on it by your self! Be aware tho that it is also extremely dangerous! So don’t go in/on too deep with experience/gear or a guide!

You should come here with ice hiking gear and do some hiking. dont come here just for sight-seeing, the view is ‘meh’ and you couldnt get to far into the glacier.

I have been to a lot of glaciers, but this is one of my favorites. You can walk on the black sand all the way to the glacier. There are a lot of guided tours that go up, but you can also go on it by yourself a little. The signs strongly advise against it and so do I.but I ignored the signs. You should bring safety gear like crampons because it can be slippery and the real danger is falling through and into the glacier so be very careful.

A must see and do! Sign up for a glacier hike and be prepared for an epic few hours!
Driving Tip: driving east on 1, immediately after the 1 lane bridge, you need to turn left onto 221! There is a big billboard for glacier hikes but otherwise it’s not totally obvious. THEN keep driving on 221 around the windy road, it’s further than you’d expect.response / report this review -

Did a solo/unguided hike on the glacier. If you stick to the marked path and use the right equipments (crampons + ice axe) you will be fine. The guided tours are expensive and in my opinion unnecessary. Breathtaking views both on top of the glacier and by the lagoon.

Incredible experience. We went with Icelandic Mountain Guides on the Glacier Walk and Ice Climb and they were exceptionally professional and friendly. Do it!

We did a glacier tour here and it was AMAZING! It was so much fun to put on those foot spikes and just walk up this big glacier. We also signed up for Ice Wall Climbing and that was fun. It was a 4 hour tour but we loved it and would definitely do it again. Lots of fun and glad we did it.

Stunning natural beauty. Simply amazed by the magnificent glacier and the landscape nearby. Weather could change quite dramatically, so expect snowy rain and getting drenched, but also stay optimistic about the sunshine because who knows what happens? This is also part of Icelandic experience!
