Well worth a visit. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and, because when we arrived the tour bus went to the cafe (wonderful as well), we had a private tour. Fascinating history of the monastery and then Gunnar Gunnarsson's life and home. Very happy we made this one of the sites we included in our time in East Iceland. Plus the drive there was, like all of Iceland, gorgeous!

Stumbled onto this place by accident as I was looking for littlenessfoss, but I was sure glad I came across it. This is by far the best place for food that I found in Iceland. Really great quality local food, and the price is right. It is also in this really cool stone building and friendly staff. It is definately worth a stop. The day we came across it they had a band playing outside.

The buffet is awesome with local home cooked dishes, sweets and great coffee. The view is also fantastic. There's a small art gallery and children play area.

Lovely cafe, very welcoming and warm, great food and buffet with affordable prices. If the visitors center is closed the lady that manages the cafe can even give you suggestions for hikes:)

Great Culture centre in memory of Gunnar Gunnarsson and fabulous restaurant named Klausturkaffi where you can get lunch and cake buffet every day in summer.
