Great waterfall, coolest part was sitting on this rock right on top of the falls
This place was worth the cold, the snow/rain, and the icy stairs. It doesn't even seem real. It's the Niagra Falls of Iceland and offers stunning views. The ice and snow made for a dramatic viewing. There's a place to purchase things but like all shops in Iceland, it's pricey.
Amazing sight! Especially at winter, the sheer size of this was astonishing.
We saw a lot of waterfalls in Iceland, but this was hands down our favorite. I have never seen another waterfall with so many individual large streams of water. We counted over 20. (We were there in July.)
If you are already going to Dettifoss, take the time to walk here. I spent a lot of time planning this trip, but I didn't know about Selfoss. I don't know why it's not more highly rated and publicized.
Another big plus, there were only two other people there the day we went. A lot of places in Iceland are crowded, but this is not one of them.
Make sure you go to the bathroom before you start walking because there is no where to go once you get to Selfoss.
Just amazing, dozens of "small" waterfalls combined into one.
Incredible waterfall experience! Visible from the road with parking and bathroom built next to it. Yes, there will be a fair amount of tourists depending on the season you but it (September still had a fair amount of people) but honestly didn't take away from the experience.
You can walk along the base looking up, or use the railed stairway built into the mountain and climb to the top. You cannot go behind this waterfall (as far as I know).
At the top you can walk along the river for quite a while. Climbing up the stairs is moderately difficult as the incline is steep.
Well worth an hour or so stop before heading to other destinations. This is also close to other Waterfalls.
Pretty spectacular! But also tons of people. Port-a-potties (including disabled ones) at the parking lot too.
Less impressive then dettifoss but very beautiful nonetheless. You can walk right up to the edge. And iit is just s couple of hundred meters extra walk when visiting dettifos from the west.
Impressive waterfall, nicer than Dettifoss. A rocky footpath leads on the east side to this waterfall.
One of my favorite and least crowded waterfalls in Iceland! Absolutely Breathtaking
Fantasic waterfall!
By far the most interactive and open falls in Iceland. Maybe a little dangerous but still fantastic that you can walk straight up to the edge!
Selfoss is 0.8km walk from Dettifoss, I guess it is the upper stream of Dettifoss. The water stream started to blow into your face and camera as you get closer. Since it is close to Dettifoss, it is worth walking over
