Couldn't see much when I visited. Clouded with thick fog and smoke. Probably would be better in summer!

Nonetheless, it is a nice place to visit which gives you the mysterious feeling when you see smoke all around you.

A word of caution to those with sensitive noses: the place smells strongly of sulphur.

Really unique spot with amazing colours in the earth. Good stop if you're in the area. It was by far the strongest smelling place in our travels though.

A very interesting place, easily spotted from the ring road. It has a strong smell of sulphur, but you get used to it. Very cool geological things happening here.

This is a geothermal area where there have been the training for the Apollo 11 crew. Here the earth's crust is very thin, so the steam comes out and there are many hot mud puddles at a temperature of about 80-100 degrees. Definitely amazing!

Yeah well, one knows the smell, but it is quite diffrent from your old school-time rotten-egg-bomb a lot mor "rotten" to this particular egg the climb up the hill isn't for the faint-at-heart either don't try at all when wet and only with good shoes while dry one part of the climb is very slippery - as the ground is stamped rock hard with loose gravel atop and a bad slope to it
When up on the hill - the views are very nice and there is ab easier way up, if you walk right from the parking lot and don't take the obvious approach to the mountain climb going left
    Enjoy!
