Absolutely phenomenal fine casual dining in Reykjavik. The food is delicious and beautifully presented to you. Server and staff spoke English and were very hospitable. If you are there for an evening and do not have a reservation try and beat the crowd that starts to come around 7pm or you will miss out on dining at this lovely place!

We found Messinn accidentally and without reservations. The hostess welcomed us warmly and within 5 minutes were seated. The meal, service and atmosphere surpassed expectations. The price is reasonable but I would suggest splitting one of the fantastic seafood skillets as the portions are generous!! HIGHLY recommend for travelers to Iceland

Quite possibly one of the best seafood meals I’ve ever had! Given food is quite expensive in Iceland in general, our lunch here was actually quite reasonable for such great quality dishes. Staff were helpful in recommending choices, main fish dishes were served in hot pans so that our table could share the different meals. All were soooooo delicious but the standout was the Arctic Char with honey and almonds.

It is a very charming restaurant in the center of Reykjavik, lovely service and very affordable tasty food.
We enter at noon and were welcomed to a nice table. The room is nicely decorated with typical objects. The waitress was fast and nice, the chefs cooked rapidly our orders and the fish plates that we asked were generous and really fine cuisine.
It is a place to visit for every fish lover.

Very good restaurant with kinda cheap prices (for Iceland). You have to eat seafish here. We ate the Icelandic fish and Arctic Char, which were both really good. The water is also very good. The restaurant is big and the staff friendly. We definitely recommend the restaurant to everyone.

This restaurant was amazing in every way. We walked in off the street and they were able to seat us right away. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere was very nice and welcoming. The tables were set up very nice with everything you would need for your meal. We both got apitizers, I got lobster soup and my dad got shrimp toast. The lobster soup was super creamy and filled with chunks of lobster. We split a big plate of salted did, potatoes, greens, in curry sauce. It was so delicious! It was probably one of the best meals I've had in my life. And I'm a cook, I don't say that lightly. Overall is was a very good experience. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

A fantastic place to eat and more so if you love seafood. I had the fish burger with wedges and it didn't disappoint. 3 very large wedges and a perfectly cooked salmon fillet with delicious salad. You are given a bottle of water when you arrive with other drinks available. I went for a latte that was strong but very tasty perfect for after your food. The price was spot on for Reykjavik and top class food.

We came here as it was around the corner from our hotel and the front desk recommended this place on our first night. We didn’t have reservations but the waitress was able to find us a table. We have 3 Kids so important to have kids menu/portions (half of anything on the menu). My kids all had salmon, and my wife and I had the Arctic Char. We tried the prawns as well as lobster soup to start. Taste was excellent and service was good. We basically cleared everything.

A lucky find on our trip there. It was not only delicious by normal standards but was the best fish/meal I've ever tasted and it's difficult to cook fish perfectly, not dry, not undercooked, not bland, not too salty but perfect. We had the almond crusted artic char, another shredded/minced fish dish and seafood soup. The prices were great for lunch and best for sharing so you can try a variety instead of just one dish. The staff were very friendly and even let us have bottomless soup when ordering the soup (off the meal menu, not appetizer). I wish they had a location where I lived so I can have it again.

The best seafood we had on the trip. Tried the Arctic Char which is a menu favorite and was not disappointed. I would definitely try and recreate this dish at home to share the way this Arctic Char was prepared! Service was great too, and we’d recommend calling ahead of time to book a dinner reservation, but if your early enough you might be able to get a table!

My friend and I discovered this place on our last evening in Reykjavík as we wanted to try lobster soup and fish whilst here - we weren’t disappointed! The food was amazing! We both had the delicious lobster soup for starters. I had the salt cod and my friend had the salmon for mains. The pan of fish arrived and we thought it was a feast! There’s was enough for two people to share one pan really but we were hungry. Best fish place I’ve ever eaten! Yes it is expensive as is everything in Iceland but this was so worth it! It wasn’t stuffy but nice and chilled with a lovely ambience-all in all a perfect dinner to remember! Thank you x

Hands down the best fish dish I have ever eaten. I got the Artic Char Fishpan..ohmy goodness! Delicious!! Big enough for 2 to share, but you will want to eat it all yourself! My wife loved the Lobster soup. Reasonably priced by Icelandic standards too. GO!!

We had excellent seafood in many restaurants in Reykjavik, but Messinn is my number one. We went for lunch twice and all was perfect. Good wines selection. Also service was perfect. The only thing to improve is that dessert menu is too short.

Went here for dinner with my boyfriend. I'm Vegan which can be tricky when traveling. Messinn's carrot chickpea fritter dish was absolutely the BEST meal I had in Iceland- and maybe even in any restaurant. The flavor in that dish was outstanding. Messinn also does good gin cocktails, and is very friendly to those with a gluten-free diet. If they handle fish as well as they handle vegetables, I imagine the fish dishes must be heavenly as well. The restaurant is small-medium sized, with an upscale but cozy atmosphere. We were seated without a reservation. All of the servers were very friendly. Highly recommended.

Best fish I have ever had! Even if you don't like fish, you will love it here!
We ordered the Arctic char after reading so many good reviews and had big expectations it was even better than we thought!

Just go here - the best fish i have ever eaten. The Arctic char pan is incredible - and big enough to share (3 fillets). At lunch super good value at 2100 and walk ins are possible - dinner reservations are hard to get.

Very nice environment, very good service and staffs were very friendly. I had the lobster soup. It’s super delicious that I always want to try again. And the seafood was outstanding! A little expensive but it’s reasonable for Iceland. I really want to come again! Highly recommend!

So. I walked in off the street at 5pm on Monday. Got a table immediately. Had the lobster soup, the Atlantic Wolffish, and the Berry-mania, which were, respectively, the best soup, the best fish, and the best dessert I've ever had in my life. The staff were all the sort of people that make me smile. It was, in sum, a transcendent experience, and you really should try this place next time you're in Reykjavik. And if you're not planning to be in Reykjavik, well, change your plans.

Honestly started out great with a table right away even though we didn't reserve. We had the artic char, the salmon burger, soup and cod. It was all very delicious the complementary bread was also very nice and fresh. We kinda waited a while and they asked us if we'd like dessert, also got a water refill at this time. We tried the carrot cake because the mains were so delicious and we were all disappointed in the lack of flavor. This isn't a traditional carrot cake. Didn't taste like carrot cake at all to me. Wouldn't have paid 500 krona let alone 1.500. Finished the meal on a dull note but the mains are really really great. I'd go again but try something else to finish off the meal.

Great food and great service from most everyone except our waiter. Not sure who pissed in his cereal but after trying to be patient waiting for our check for almost 60 minutes after finishing our meal and watching him serve and return to every surrounding table, finally walked to the front to pay. Can’t think of anything we did that could offend him. Poor ending, but otherwise very good meal.

A guy working at the snack place next door recommended we go here for dinner. We made reservations for our last night in Iceland here ❤️ amazing place with cozy atmosphere. Big portions, me and my boyfriend were able to split one dish and an appetizer. We realized everything was really expensive in Iceland compared to Canada so we planned to spend a lot of money but we came out below our budget. Everyone we went with had leftovers to bring home with us, and our waiter was super sweet.

Wish I took a picture before I ate. Hands down the best fish dish I've ever had. I'm NOT a seafood person whatsoever. However, my wife lives and breathes it. So we had to check it because of the reviews during our stay. The picture below is of my wife's dish; an Arctic char with a honey almond sauce (full portion not shown). Did not disappoint. I had a salted Cod dish with an Indian spin as it was served with a curry type sauce and potatoes (had some greens and something else I can't find the words for). Small space and we honestly got lucky as a walk-in because we didn't have reservations. They soon were declining couples after we sat around 630-7 because of the reservation they had to honor. So keep that in mind. Overall, the reviews hold up!

One of just a couple meals we had in Iceland because "it's expensive", right?

Well, not necessarily. We went for lunch and each got the fish stew. I'd like to inform you that I have not been much of a seafood fan in my 27 years of existence, having only recently branched out, but this was incredible. Since we got the same thing, the chef combined it into a single skillet and what you see is but a portion of that. The dense, molasses-type bread soaked up the sauce and juices of everything else and the fish was incredible. Everything was perfect! I don't know what fish goes into it but it wasn't too "fishy", but rather flavorful and had plenty of citrus to it. It's only been a few months at this point but I long for it more than most meals I've had.

It totaled about $33 for the two lunch portions without drinks and we ended up taking some home. Fair for American prices, fantastic for Iceland prices, especially given the quality. A nap may or may not have been had after consumption.

Amazing food, service and atmosphere. The price was very reasonable compared to everything in Iceland and the portions are hefty. 10/10 would eat again and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fish.

Great food and service, very friendly staff. Fantastic experience. I'm not a 'fishy' person, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the dishes. The prices are not high and it is a very popular place. The restaurant is closed from 15.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs, and it is recommended to make a booking for the evening as - quite rightly - it is very popular. Highly recommended!

Wonderful fish we had Artic Char with generous salad and vegetables. The plaice was excellent too. Great atmosphere and terrific food. Loved the way it was served in the pan which kept the food hot. Quirky old English china plates!

Absolutely incredible food - fish was fresh and delicious and cooked to perfection. Wine was lovely and the service was very good! Food came leisurely but in a timely manor; we had three courses and were here for an hour and 45 minutes. Also a very good price for good seafood in Iceland! Would definitely come again.
