About a 1km hike from the Skogar Museum is this gorgeous waterfall which you can walk behind. Park at the museum, go through a farmer's gate and follow the trail to the river. Walk upstream through the lush valley and Kvernufoss, at about 40 metres high - bigger and taller than expected - will be all yours.

One of my top favorite waterfalls. Best place to see some water free from the foot traffic that near skogafoss.

I called this the hidden valley where the Disney princess comes to hide with her animal companion during the Icelandic Princess Disney movie.
It is a gem hidden away (though you can see it from the road, you cannot drive up to it)
The experience of walking through the valley to uncover the falls is great. It is worth the short hike.

Well worth the hopping of the fence. Absolutly amazing and you can get some great photos. You do have to cross over a fence next to the museum into farmland and it's a short walk from there.

Fantastic waterfall a short easy walk from the museum. As other reviews state you cross farmland to reach it. If you come during a sunny day the falls cast a gorgeous rainbow. It's becoming more popular but still way quieter than Skogafoss.

Park at the museum or at the last building nearby, go through a farmer's gate and follow the trail to the river. If that's locked, just walk along the fence past some rusted farm machinery. Climb the farmer's ladder over the fence and make your way east towards the river. Walk upstream through the lush valley and Kvernufoss, at about 40 metres high - bigger and taller than expected - will be all yours.

kvernufoss is just a short walk away from the beautiful but highly touristy area of skógarfoss. more than likely you will have this lush gorge all to yourself.
