another well known waterfall that is a must see. very touristy but still recommend to go see. i strongly advise to go up the stairs all the way to the top as the view on the top is out of this world. completely different to what it looks like at the bottom of the waterfall. more scenic landscape for picture points! walk further down and you will see mini river streams and waterfalls along the way. it is steep hike so be prepared to feel those lactic acid building up in them muscles.at the top there's a viewing point right next to the waterfall which you can see through to the floor. makes the hike up rewarding!

The waterfall is one the most impressive on Iceland's souther coast. It is perfect for a photo opportunity. Follow the stairs to the right, which are no joke going up or down so be careful, to the top and you will discover a hike with beautiful scenery even better than the waterfall below. Amazing views of the surrounding area, mountains, more waterfalls, and more.

The parking area is well maintained. There are picnic tables and restrooms. There is a cafe, but I didn't go inside.

One of the most grand waterfalls in Iceland. It is visible from route 1 and there is a nice parking area that is free and a café and bathrooms as well. You should make the journey up the stairs to the right of the falls. It gives you a view of the falls from above, but more importantly, there is a gate that you can go through and hike up the river. As you hike you will find a dozen more waterfalls. If you have 2 hours you can get to a waterfall that is equally as impressive as Skogafoss, but much more secluded. It was my favorite hike of the trip so I would highly recommend it. The trail is really long so just walk up as far as you can and turn around when you have to but you will not regret it.

Awesome waterfall. The staircase up to the top is a monster to climb, but 100% worth it. Incredible views from the top, and seeing the water Cascade over the edge from the look out point up there is an amazing experience. Typically really tourist heavy, but it's still a cool stop.

Got to spend the night in the lot at this water fall with our cozy camper van. Nice to wake up next to it, bathrooms weren't the best, but they were warm and had hot water. The walk to the stairs was cool, best part is the hiking up further at the top. Looked like you could hike pretty far. Went mid week for this, crowed was fine, although two days later driving by on a Saturday, was jammed!

Definitely one of the most places I've been in my life. Iceland is amazing you have to stay outside the city and get to this marvelous places. Seeing this waterfall and walking over it was just incredible

Beautiful waterfall. On a sunny day, you can catch a double rainbow from the falls. If you take the stairs to the top, there is an easy and scenic hike inland. The toughest part would be the hike up the steep staircase, but well worth the view from the top.

Right off the main highway, and just a few more steps to get you to the bottom of a beautiful waterfall. Easy to get right up to the pounding water. Frozen walls on either side frame the falls. Energetic souls can climb the stairway to the top of the falls for a superb view.

Oh my god the views at this place were magical. Although our trip there was rather short we did get some nice shots of the area and the waterfall. Needles to say it was beyond words. There were a ton of people there that were enjoying themselves the weather was perfect and the view was more than mesmerizing. Come to think of it the only reason we did this was because the waterfall was featured in a music video from an Icelandic band called Sólstafir and the song is called Fjara. Enjoy it!

My wife and I travelled in late April. We found that during the week, most places were very quiet, as the tourist season hadn't yet started. The weather was cold, which is how I like it. I think it was 2°C, dry but a touch windy the day we went. Love it though, as the snow melt made the force of the water even more spectacular! It has to be in your bucket list if you visit Iceland!

From the couple of waterfalls that I have seen in Iceland, I think I like Skógafoss the most. You can get pretty close, there are rainbows (1,2 sometimes even 3) visible and you can walk up to see the water falling from the top. What many people don't know is that it is nice to walk a bit further upstream at the top. There is a bunch of small waterfalls that run through wild rock formations. We climbed down there to get close to the river which was great fun and gave some stunning views.

Beautiful! Well worth the stop! There's a path at the top of the stairs that winds along beside the canyon, the views are even more beautiful. If you plan to get close to the bottom of the falls (I went as close as possible) you will definitely need waterproof clothing.

This falls can easily be renamed as rainbow falls cos of the constant rainbow formed due to her water spray in the sun. Be prepared to get wet if you want to go near the bottom.

Didn't get the 5 stars for me cos I don't think the walk up to the top was worth it less getting yourself warmed up. The main picturesque view is where you first approach it from the carpark.

Toilets are decent given the volume of tourist and is 200kr (honesty box).

A couple of picnic tables are available as well.

Loved it! It's a bit busy, since there are camping spots near the fall, but it wasn't too crowded when you got closer to the fall. There's a staircase beside the falls that you're able to climb to the top of the fall and look down.

Amazing opportunity to get up and close to a beautiful and powerful part of mother nature. The climb and walk down from the top is unnerving if you're afraid of heights. There's also only a bannister one one side of the steps. There's a slack rope or chain on the other. The effort is worth it. Bathroom are not disgusting, but smell badly. Also, there's a small fee to pay to use the bathroom, as in some other Icelandic natural attractions.

I've given a lot of 5 stars when it comes to my travels through Iceland, but that's because most every stop was unforgettable. Skógafoss Waterfall is no exception.

This was the first waterfall seen on the trip. I would suggest hiking up the stairs first to the top of the waterfall before enjoying the base, which you can walk right up to. Even on a cloudy day the view is spectacular. I wish we had had more time there as I would have loved to explore more of the top of the waterfall, and spent more time at it's base. There was so much to see that dayguess I'll just have to go back there. :)

Powerful ~60m tall waterfall with steps leading up to the top. The view of the southern Icelandic coastline from the top is definitely worth the climb (though there are 432 steps in total!)

An impressive waterfall in which you can get a view from it just a number of feet away from where it lands, as well as standing just at the top of it. Beware, you will have to walk a bunch of stairs, but it's doable for pretty much everyone.
Although I never walked it, there is a path to a volcano some 5 km inward from the waterfall.

In recent years this has gone from a waterfall that not too many thought of, to being one of the staple tourist attractions of Iceland. It's certainly a lovely sight, and you can walk right up beside it to really feel its full power & rushing mist. The stairs to the top are a steep climb and afford great views toward the south (though not necessarily of the waterfall itself anymore- since my visit in 2011 it looks like safety has taken precedence over terrifying views). This is the trailhead for an *excellent* hike to Þórsmörk and is highly recommended, even if just as a day trip up about halfway & back again.

Worth the quick stop off the ring road. Free parking, bathrooms are 200isk donation, camping available. This is a pretty quick one, requiring you to climb about 30 flights of stairs to get to the top. They are metal stairs with a railing and you can continue to walk along the river for about 26km, between the glaciers. Sounds like a beautiful hike for sure. The walk to the waterfall, view from below, is just at the end of the parking lot. There will be lots of people for sure.

It's considered the most beautiful waterfall in all of Iceland! It is truly a wonderful sight even when it's raining! You can get very close to the falls at the base and there's a set of stairs to reach the top of the falls. The walk up is quite the workout but it's worth it. The view is great and the fence let's you get very close to the falls. During sunny days it's known to create an amazing rainbow.

This is was a nice waterfall, there is a stairs for you to climb but know that its very high up. I only got to halfway because I had glacier hiking right after. I didn't want to tire myself out for this and give up for glacier hiking with nobody to rescue. I saw a rainbow when I was there but I think that rainbow is there for quite some time.

A spectacular waterfall, complete with its own rainbow from the airborne spray. The awe-inspiring vista was slightly diminished by the fact that it was quite busy - even in March, several busloads of people were here to admire the falls.

Being able to climb to the top of the waterfall and look down added a different dimension on top of the impressive view from below.

Beautiful, really amazing waterfall come here in the winter and be careful not to go into the shaded area as the snow will likely be to slippery to stand on. Lots of people slipped here.

Gorgeous waterfall where we literally found a rainbow!! Such a brilliant place! It is the iconic waterfall of Iceland the one in all the tourism adverts. Definitely worth a visit!
