Cool views and beautiful example of a volcano on the Golden Circle. Not really worth the 400 ISK despite signs for "improving the area." The walk around the top provides various perspectives and photo opportunities. Not super busy (April 2018) and a very clean area. You can walk to the bottom of the crater which is filled with water for a different perspective. Worth it to say you did, but there are better options depending on your time/budget.

The little lake inside the crater is very calm and soothing. We were a bit unlucky with the weather so it was very windy, but otherwise a very nice visit. They have a small symbolic sum you pay to get in (about $4) to keep nature in shape. The view from around the top and from the bottom of the crater are both great.

Absolutely stunning area. We found this on a few blogs/forums as a place to add on to your Golden Circle route if you were driving it yourself and were so glad we stopped here.

It cost a small amount to get in (can't remember if it was 200 or 400 each) but was well worth it, especially as you won't have had to pay for any of the other attractions on the Golden Circle route.

One warning, it was really windy while we were here and we decided to walk round the top of the crater. Make sure you take car as there are some areas where you can take great photos from, but it's only a stiff breeze from knocking you over the side as there are no barriers!

Great place to see the extinct volcano, can walk the rim and take some great pictures down into the lake at the bottom. Went in January so it was cold. Make sure you take lots of warm clothes as the walk along the rim can be very cold. The steps down to the bottom are a little hard to manage in winter but we'll worth it. There is a small fee to get in but we'll worth it. They have done a great job of keeping it Natural.

Absolutely stunning. No words can describe this natural wonder. This is a must visit in the golden circle tour, you won't be disappointed. There is a charge to get in though.

This tourist attraction is extremely easy to reach by car and worth the cost of admission. Give yourself 30-45 minutes to truly enjoy the view and walk the perimeter. I visited in winter and the trail was quite slippery. I did not take the steps to the bottom as the ice seemed too treacherous, but if you have good ice boots you could make it.

This was such a fun stop on the Golden Circle. I was expecting a brilliant blue lake (as seen in photos online), but as you can see it was frozen over and covered in snow in January. Nonetheless, we enjoyed walking around the crater rim and taking in the views. Plenty of parking available as well.

One of a kind attraction, like most in Iceland. South of the golden circle, can easily be put into any tour if you have time to spare. A decent sized car park is available and a small fee to get into the crater which we didn't mind paying as the site is well cared for. The crater was a great sight in winter as the lake is completely frozen over, something which cannot be experienced in many places. The path down to the lake is very steep and quite slippy in some places so take caution, steps to go most of the way, but there are a few places where worn steps can become a little dangerous at icy times. A must see for me!

This stop was very cool. It cost to park and see the crater - 400 kronur per person (but kids were free) this was not in guide books but goes to help protect natural wonders and improve the area so we didn't mind paying. Very beautiful!

Beautiful crater. Careful with the walk around the rim, towards the top half the trail is a bit narrow, it's also quite slippery. The view is gorgeous

Lovely, picturesque crater lake. Worth a visit as you explore the Golden Circle in Iceland. There is an entrance fee but it is worth a visit. You can walk along the rim of the volcano. Be careful though as there are no handrails or barriers, especially in windy or bad weather. There is also a path that leads down to the lake.

The crater is really great to visit. On the side of the road that may be easy to miss but you'll notice many cars parked. There is a small fee and you get to walk around the rim (be careful, no rope or rails to stop you from rolling down) and there is a path to reach the the lake. The lake is quite blue and the contrast between the red ground and blue water is amazing. Definitely a must visit stop in Iceland.

Nice place to add on to the golden circle if you are driving yourself. Entrance is 400isk for a adult. But it is worth it for the view inside. They look to be investing the money back into the area by making a decking area and a good paths around the the crater. You are able to walk round the top crater and there are steps down and a path round the lake in the bottom of the crater. I spent around an hour. There is car parking but are no other facilities.

Place was awesome except for the entrance fee. If you have a 14 year old kid, just hide him/her or say you got a 12 year old child because they're free and anyone under. Not sure about student discounts.
You can walk all the way around and eventually take the rocky steps down to the bottom.
    Fun fun :)

It was gorgeous! There were definitely people there at 11am on a Saturday, but it was not at all unpleasant. The parking lot is too small, we had to wait 5-10 minutes for a spot. The entrance fee was reasonable, considering how much restoration will have to be done in a few years, especially because people tend to not stay on the marked paths. Overall, I would definitely put it on your list, especially if you are in the area. There is something for everyone, from grandma who can only walk a few meters to the outlook to the little kid who can play with the colorful rocks. Well worth the 1/2 hour drive from our house, we spent about an hour and a half there. Beautiful.

Beautiful example of a close up view of a small volcano, the grounds and landscaping are well done and maintained. You have to be somewhat aware of your surroundings as the edges up on top are not well roped off. There is a small entry fee.

It's beautiful. Simply beautiful. Don't go there expecting the complex beauty of a glacier or waterfall it's a hole in the ground folks but it's beautiful in it's own simple way.

Walk down to the bottom of the crater and sit reflexively by the side of the water it's just nice.

A very well put together facility with nicely-marked trails and thorough information, as well. The attraction itself, when considering everything one can see/experience in Iceland is pretty ho-hum (less exciting/extraordinary) as it's basically a large (but not huge) crater with water in its basin.

Plus, you have to pay 400kr to visit it as an adult (children under 12 are free), so there are much more interesting spots in Iceland to visit for free.

We had a blast, was worth every penny of the small access fee. We stayed in a summer house near Kerid and went there first thing in the morning. We were the only people at the crater which made a huge difference. The isolation added and excellent feel to the experience and the pictures. Was a great place to experience alone with my wife.

Beautiful stop, good for a quick hop out of the car or more of a hike up the side and a great view of the lake. Well marked trails at the main part, a bit harder to discern the trails farther up in the hill. The hike up the hill is totally worth the view though. Bathrooms in the parking lot too. No reason not to stop really, even on a cloudy day. The 400isk seems like a fair price for maintenance.

Got here just after sunrise as the first stop on my self drive golden circle tour. Was the only person there. Amazing place when you have it to yourself with the first rays of sun hitting the nearby mountains. Very serene.

Probably my favourite stop on our DIY golden circle tour. Weather permitting, you can walk along the crater and see the lake from eve possible angel. Highly recommended, especially as it's not quite as touristy as the other Golden Circle attractions.

Saw Kerið in winter and it didn't stand up against to the scenes around it. Kerið IS probably stunning in summer, when the lake is not frozen - even the pamphlet displays Kerið during summer. The hike around the crater is a nice change from being in the car. The entrance fee is 400 ISK.

4 dollar entrance fee. Seeing it in the winter I'm sure doesn't do it enough justice. It was frigid with crazy winds, and bleak colors. I'm sure it is amazing to see in the summer. There is an ample parking area. Went there in February 2017

The Kerið crater was an amazing stop on our Iceland itinerary. As it is everywhere in Iceland, the scenery was just stunning. The walk around the ridge was a fun way to see the lake below from all angles. The path down to the water level was rough going, but I mostly made it down (and back up again) without falling. The day we saw Kerið we were in the car a lot, so it was a nice change to do a bit of hiking around the site. One downside--as of September 2016, there were no bathrooms at the site.
