Nice walk to a cool waterfall that is far enough away from anything that we were nearly the only people there. We were there at the end of March, and there was still quite a lot of snow, but managed to get almost right up to the bottom of the waterfall with just regular hiking boots. The walk itself probably took around 30 minutes up. Everyone else stopped quite a distance away from the waterfall and took photos, but there were tracks heading closer, where it got a little steeper, and we followed them without any problems.

Notable for being the third highest of the many waterfalls of Iceland. Nice walk up to the waterfall: You walk a moderate track past Litlanesfoss, probably a more beautiful waterfall than Hengifoss. Track can be slippery after rain.

Nice and easy hike. Untill litlanesfoss halfway up it's pretty steep but an easy path. After that it's more level. At the end the path gets rocky and muddy. Overall way worth the 2 hours

Nice waterfall. The best thing about this one? You cannot get directly to it Or you shouldn't I'd say :) Path to it is a great challenge, as you have to cross the river at least 3 times over some slippery rocks, find flthe best spot to stay dry etc Real challenge and fun! :)

Wonderful waterfall.

Very steep hike going to the waterfall but otherwise once you get halfway to the viewing pointyou can make it the rest! FYI--You do not get to walk right up to the waterfall due to the river/rocks.

Rather easy hike up to falls. Nothing most people can't accomplish. Should take 1.5 hours return. Will be a busy enough trail in tourist season. Parking lot is medium sized, but will be full depending on timing. Great views of falls available.

The hike to this waterfall takes around 1h if you take it slow, and it is somewhat steep at times but definitely manageable. What I liked about the path is that it crosses the river coming down from the waterfall many times.

You can get a first glimpse of the waterfall circa halfway through your hike. This is because the water is falling from very high up. There are possibilities here and there to take a little detour, just do not go too far off the beaten path.

This is a unique place with uneven 2.5km hiking path (return is another 2.5km); however, the path is unmarked. In winter, you can get lost quite easily when unmarked path is covered with snow, ice, and mud. The footprint wasn't helpful because I think a few lost visitors were walking all over to find the path back. I found Google map extremely useful here :). Go there during mid day, the sun shines into the valley. I was there late afternoon, and there are shadows. I could have walked closer to the fall, but I felt it is quite dangerous as it is filled with ice, snow, and rock. You never know what's underneath the thick snow.

Hengifoss waterfall is a natural wonder you do not want to miss. It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. It is also a waterfall that takes some effort to view as the path to the waterfall is a rather long hike and considerable elevation along the way. You will have a stop and see another stunning waterfall in the middle of the path, Litlanesfoss. All worth-it. If in the eastern region in Iceland do not miss this waterfall.
