What an experience. Jon was just awesome with us and the campervan has everything to make your trip in Iceland more than perfect. We took the 4x4 and it worth it because many roads are closed for you if you don’t take it so we we’re able to see wonderful places.
I tried other companies and it was not the same experience.
I highly recommend Happy Campers and their team.

Honest and down to earth family business. I rented a small van for three weeks to tour around Iceland, and the guys were super helpful and quick to respond when ever there were any issues, big or small. They were very forthcoming and friendly, and they're definitely not the kind of company who milks you for a scratch! The car itself was very new and in great condition. Super recommend them and look forward to my next trip in one of their vans! Thanks guys! :)

My family and I have rented twice with Happy Campers, and we will continue to do so every time we travel to Iceland. The van is nice and well equipped. They set you up with everything you need, and they don't charge you for every little thing. They give you all the information you need to have a successful self guided journey. (But still do your research first. Iceland can be challenging, and you'll understand all their advice better). We're also considering a trip to South Africa, and we'll certainly be looking to rent a Happy Camper there too.

We were satisfied with happy campers. All our needs were met. We started out with a rental with bald tires, but happy campers paid for the tire change free of charge after we dropped it off at the nearest auto shop. another unfortunate event was that the fridge stopped working on the first day. So for 10 days we didn't have a fridge in the van. Other than those two things everything was great and the staff were all very easy to talk to. We will still rent with them again. Customer service is excellent!

Definitely recommend Happy Campers! Fantastic Staff, very helpful, gave lots of tips about our route. We had a few issues with our camper-van, headlights didn't work but we did almost all our driving during the day so not a big issue. Had an amazing time touring the country, stayed at some great campsites they recommended, and made a lot of great memories. Also, grab some supplies from their free leftovers pile! we got some olive oil, rice, hot coco mix, and a few other items, saved us a few bucks! If traveling outside of summer, make sure to get some extra blankets, since the ones provided were on the short/small size. Again, great company and would use them again if we go back!

I LOVE Happy Campers! I rented a van for one week and could not be happier with the trip we took. The van was just perfect for 10 days of camping and exploring. The small kitchen is equipped with everything you need and the bedding included is adequate (if you are traveling in colder months you would need an additional blanket, but I think they have those available for a small additional cost). All of the employees were quick to respond to emails before the trip with the many questions I had and the airport pick up/ drop off was prompt. I highly recommend working with Happy Campers.

The van we have rented was definitely more than we have expected - really comfy, surprisingly easy to drive and unfailing in any situation.
For some reason the crazy colorful campers create a kind of happy camper community where you start to look around for fellow happy campers wherever you go and keep waving at strangers driving the streets :)
Tip for whoever plans to drive it in the future - own nice and cozy sleeping bag definitely helps to survive in the not most camper friendly Icelandic climate :)response / report this review -

Great people. Great service. The camper was very cozy. Highly recommended. Such a lovely experience.
While I loved it, I have a few suggestions to make it even better.
1. Blackout, pull-down shades in the camper would help us all sleep much better in the summer months. This is very important, in my feeling. We had to tape fabric over the windows. No small task.
2. All wheel drive. We got stuck once and had to be pulled out by a very kind Icelander with a serious truck and winch.response / report this review -

Rent elsewhere! Company lacks empathy, understanding, horrible customer service, stole my money :(.
I booked a camper van for the summer of 2017 and was very excited for my trip. Unfortunately a close friend of mine passed away and I had to cancel my trip to Iceland to be with friends and his family. I gave Happy Campers 12 days notice of the cancellation and requested my $800 CAD deposit be returned given the terrible circumstances.
"Happy" Campers said because I didn't give 20 days notice (I was 8 days too late), they wouldn't be able to refund my deposit. It was peak season for them, what happened was out of my control and horrible, and there wasn't the slightest bit of empathy from Jón at Happy Campers.
I feel like I've been taken advantage of and that Happy Campers put their policy and processes ahead of doing what's right, ethical, and understandable.
I highly recommend you rent elsewhere in Iceland - perhaps somewhere who cares about their customers and can show a little humanity and empathy.response / report this review -

Went with the "Happy 1 ex" and it didnt miss a beat!
All the online hype around dodgy car rentals in Iceland had me worried about our trip but there was no need with for it.
Took out windscreen protection for the nine days we had the van which was recommended by the staff and it payed off just with comfort of mind.
Cozy in the back but this what was available in our budget range and it was the best way to see Iceland.response / report this review -

We have an amazing unforgettable time in our happy Ex1! We (my boyfriend) drove 2800km in 7 days around the ring road and our little camper did not fail us through the crazy Icelandic weather! It was small and cosy and had everything we needed. Definitely rent or bring sleeping bags if coming in September or later though it can get v cold at night. Definitely go for happy camper if visiting Iceland!!

Would recommend!
I've rented from another camper company on a previous trip to Iceland and my experience with Happy Campers was much, much better.
The communication with their customer support team prior and during the trip was prompt and helpful. From being picked up at the airport to being showed around our van, the service was great!
I had no issues with the camper itself, actually, the features and quality of the van were above my expectations. There is a good-sized fridge, heater, wifi, and all the utensils you'd require to live out of your van comfortably.
I'd suggest bringing a mini BBQ with you and buying charcoal when you arrive - it adds a really nice element to your camping adventure.response / report this review -

I had a fabulous holiday in my Happy Camper van. The pick up from the airport was an easy start and, in no time at all, I was on the road. The van was immaculate and well equipped. The hand over at the end was also straightforward although more than a little sad. The staff were super helpful and nice throughout.
The other star of the show was Iceland itself. The scenery was stunning and I was able to enjoy so much more of it with the freedom that hiring a camper van gave me.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Rented a camper van from here for a 9 day trip around Iceland. They offer a pickup and drop back to the airport. Check out the green zone..where prior campers have left behind stuff which you can pick up for free. Also, would recommend renting the portable grill..comes in very handy during the camping trips.
It gets quite cold during the nights. So either carry a sleeping bag or rent one..you will not regret it. Would recommend carrying a piece of rope which can be tied to make a drying line. Useful for drying clothes during the drive.
Overall, it has been a very pleasant experience in dealing with Happy Campers. They were great in answering all the questions we had prior to the trip. They make sure that you understand how everything works before you leave. Keep up the good work!!response / report this review -

We had a great experience with Happy Campers. The booking process was easy; they picked us up and dropped us off at the airport and explained how everything worked in the camper as well as a few different rules of the road etc. We drove the Ring Road in 6 days and enjoyed the most amazing scenery ever. The camper had everything we needed. We asked for and received three extra blankets but I would recommend bringing your own sleeping bags or renting them. We rented camping chairs but only used them one time, so get the sleeping bags instead! We had absolutely no issues with the camper. We would definitely rent from Happy Campers again.

We had a good experience with Happy Campers (Happy Camper 3). The van was in good condition, and the staff was friendly and helpful. They also had good advice on the practicalities of traveling in Iceland (campgrounds, grocery stores, etc). One particular point I liked is the back seat is a real forward facing seat with real seat belts. A lot of the other van conversions from the other rental companies had sideways seats that I don't think are as safe.

Even though my flight was delayed 7 hours, Happy Campers was there waiting for me at the airport. It was a quick 10 minute drive to their store, they gave me a clean well taken care of van, went over maps with me and answered any questions I had. Before leaving they directed me to a grocery store right down the road. Renting a camper van is a great way to see Iceland and you can't go wrong with Happy Campers.

We found the folks at Happy Camper to be very easy to deal with. The vehicle was in good shape and easy to drive. We went on the Ring Road for over 2000 KM and had no issues. I really liked the easy to find headquarters to turn in the vehicle.
One thing to be aware of is that they are literally renting on a 24 hour cycle, so if you pick up the camper at 8AM then it has to be returned by 8 AM do day of turn in. The gave us a couple of hours of grace, which was really nice, but getting there by 8AM is kind of difficult.
Also make sure your stove is working correctly before heading out into the ozone. Fortunately we discovered out stove was DOA at Grindavik, which is close.
One last thing that will save you some bucks. Iceland is insanely expensive (hamburgers $25, fish and chips $30), so take as much food into the country as possible. The local dairy products are really good, but beware of meat (hamburger $8 per lb).

Having just come back from a 9 day tour around the Ring Road, I can only have great words about Iceland and Happy Campers.
I think driving around the island is the best way to visit this amazing place, as it gives you the freedom to go at your own pace and the chance to enjoy the incredible scenery along the way. For such experience I would recommend without kind of a doubt to choose Happy Campers as you van rental company. First of all, because since the first minute, the communication was quick and clear. They are a very friendly and calmed team which will help you with anything before and during your stay, their service was excellent and very helpful.
The quality and design of the interior of the van was excellent, definitely the best one out of the other companies’ vans we saw on the different camping sites during our trip. Well equipped with heating system, water tap, gas cooker, cutlery, plenty of storage space and a nice and a very comfortable fold-out bed (plus some duvets, blankets and pillows – take your sleeping bag regardless as it can be quite cold).
We had a small problem with the radio on the van, for which they made us a refund of all the other extras we had included in our booking, which was a nice gesture.
They also offer a free shuttle service from and to the airport and nearby hotels which is very helpful.
Start thinking about your itinerary around the island as this is the van for you trip!response / report this review -

The little lady and myself blew through Iceland for a 5 day layover on the way to Europe. We were very happy with everything surrounding our Happy Camper rental! I personally don't think there is any better way to see Iceland or parts of Iceland then by camper van. It works really well to be able to stay where you want. Who doesn't like to wake up near a waterfall, next to the ocean, or in lava field.
We chose the smaller Happy van and it worked really well for two people traveling light. If you are more then two or have a lot of gear you may want to go bigger. It also does well on the gas consumption and is easy to maneuver around and park just about anywhere.
The staff are quite friendly and helpful! It's nice to get picked up at the airport so you do not have to think to much after getting off a long flight. It's also nice to get dropped off at the airport or your hotel after dropping the van off. It's the little things that always make traveling easier. The shared food/supplies/books/games etc is another nice touch by Happy Campers! There are always things that you can use there that you wouldn't want to have to purchase for such a short time.
There are a couple of chinks in the Happy Camper armor, although none should make you choose another company.
1) It would be great to have some hooks or a drying line somewhere in the camper. It would be easy to do and not get in the way of the camper being functional. You get wet in Iceland, real wet sometimes and it would be great to be able to dry stuff. If you aren't getting wet in Iceland your probably doing something wrong.
2) We went in the end of May and it was still a bit cold. The blankets that come with the camper are a bit light for the spring and early summer trips. So don't let them talk you out of bringing a sleeping bag or renting one.
With the above being said, I would and will rent from Happy Campers next time in Iceland. Which in a perfect world will be real, real, soon!response / report this review -

The campervan was an excellent choice for our camping experience in Iceland. The heater was wonderful option with the April weather. We enjoyed fixing our meals in the cozy van and the money saved made everything that much better. Would definitely recommend this company to anyone interested in a DIY approach.
The kitchen was adequate for our meals. I would suggest a splatter cover for the frying pan to reduce the mess.

We had a great experience with Happy Campers. They provided everything we needed and more for an amazing adventure in the West Fjords. And the service was excellent. We had a minor mechanical issue with our van, and the folks at Happy Campers had us back on the road in a new van in no time at all. So great to work with a company that knows what they are doing. Would recommend Happy Campers to all my friends, and have already done so several times. Thanks!!

Just returned from a vacation of a lifetime to Iceland. My boyfriend and I had the best time and our Happy Camper 1 was cozy but perfect for the two of us for the week. We found that the flexibility and ease the van provided allowed us to of Iceland and was a much more affordable option then renting a car and booking several different airbnb's or guesthouses. The stove was easy to use and we were able to make a few simple meals, but also ate out quite a bit as well. The cooler was great and the ability to have running water was awesome. We had no problems finding places to fill up our water tank when we needed to. If you are going in the winter, as we did, I would think twice about renting the grill, and maybe even the table and chairs. We ended up deciding against the grill once we saw how tight the van would be with our luggage and were glad we did. We also never used the table and chairs but probably would have if the weather had been just a little bit better in the evenings. We stayed in some amazing campsites (where else can you fall asleep to the sound of a waterfall) and had a tremendous experience overall. We loved the happy campers staff and wouldn't hesitate to recommend happy campers to our family and friends. We can't wait to be back!

April 3-8, 2017. Our adventure in Iceland was fantastic thanks to Happy Camper. Even in winter we were comfortable and warm. The camper was meant for two and was cozy full with me and my husband. We opted to keep shoes in the front to try to stay clean and usually crawled from front to back. This worked well. Camp stove malfunctioned, but a nice gentleman at the Secret Lagoon fixed it for us. Happy Camper told us where we could get a new one if he couldn't fix it, and that they would reimburse. The heating system kept us warm all night, set on medium-low. Very nice option to combine car/sleeping. We drove nearly 1500km and we're very comfortable the entire trip.

We loved our experience in Iceland with Happy Campers. The customer service was exceptional, and the van felt like home for the 4 days we had it. We had the smallest version, there were 2 of us, and we slept snugly, but comfortably.
We had a question about the van our first night, and we're able to email them and they responded within the hour (late at night).
The van was clean, in good condition, comfortable
The owners not only care about every van that drives off their property, but the customers too.
We highly recommend this company if you're looking into doing the camper van style tour of Iceland--- in our opinion, the only way to see Iceland!response / report this review
