Late November. Short, cold days. We’d spent the previous day doing the tourist trail around the Golden Circle, and wanted to get away from the crowds and of the country. The information man at the hotel in Reykjavik suggested we head north and mentioned a small fishing village: Stykkishólmur. So that’s where we headed. We arrived on the quayside just after a beautiful sunset and the village seemed deserted. It wasn’t, it’s just that it was very cold and anyone with any sense was indoors. We made tea, took some photos, walked around, watched the fishing boats come in and unload, and then headed back to Reykjavik with the added bonus of a great display of the Northern Lights.
