Late November. Heavy snow and gale force winds. First impressions as we arrived after a long, difficult drive weren’t favourable. As we approached my partner said it looked like a penitentiary. Our arrival wasn’t helped by having to wade through waist deep snow drifts to get to the front door plus the realisation that we were probably the only guests.

Once we were inside the actual hotel (we had to enter through an entrance in what was still the undeveloped old school building) everything changed. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and our room was lovely. Our worries about being the only guests turned out to be wrong. Four others had managed to make it through the snow drifts!

To our surprise and relief the restaurant and the chef were fully operational and we had a really lovely meal as the wind howled around the building.

It was certainly an adventure.but we’d certainly stay again.

Wonderful conversion from school to hotel. Comfortable rooms and beds. Good amenities on site but in the middle of nowhere. Modern decor and meals are decent.

I stayed at Hotel Laugarbakki for a single night in March. The hotel was easy to find and in a great location. The room was clean and had plenty of space. The staff was very friendly and helpful about things to see and routes to drive. The breakfast had a large selection and plenty of everything. It's a great halfway point to Akureyri from Reykjavik. It was also a good location if you were to try and do some seal watching and sightseeing on the Vatnsnes Peninsula.

Has 4 hottubs running, the reception also works as a bar, free internet with good speed, the restaurant isn't that price if you want a burguer, really nice breakfast with waffles! you can pay to take some breakfast with you if you speak with the employees

Pretty pricey for what you get compared to some of the other hotels/guesthouses we stayed at on our trip. The location isn't the greatest (nothing within walking distance). The room was tastefully decorated and had a TV with a handful of channels. Shower had weak water pressure and the sliding glass door might not give enough privacy for some. Wifi was weak in our room. Exterior of the building is sad compared to the inside which is actually quite new and modern. The staff was friendly.

We had dinner at the restaurant, the big salad was tasty and the cod was a bit lacking in flavour but overall okay. Your other dinner option is to drive to Hvammstangi about 10 mins north. Breakfast had a good variety of food including waffles.

The oddest part was checking out since we had to walk through the conference room to exit get downstairs. There was an actual conference happening the morning of our departure so we had to interrupt someone's presentation to go downstairs. Super awkward. They really shouldn't book that section of the hotel when they have a conference booked.

I was expecting a bit more when we booked a hotel room here. It was expensive and I just thought there might be more to it. The hotel is out of the way in the middle of a field with nothing close to walk to. Our hotel room was small and you could barely walk around in it. The restaurant was unbelievably expensive and we ended up having travel food as the whole surrounding area had the same food prices. So that may not be the hotels fault but a supply issue.
I give it a four out of five because it was clean and it was quiet. The free breakfast was fantastic with a variety of choices and it felt like the over priced room was finally going to something. It is not a hotel for a budget. But it is clean, the people are nice, and the food is good.

A bit off the beaten path. For those looking for a nice clean room at a decent price this is your place. It's no d of out in the middle of nowhere but for us that was the point. We wanted to get away from the huge crowds at the popular spots around Iceland. This was perfect. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

This hotel is a little off of hwy 1 but is worth it. The hotel is clean and modern with friendly staff. The views are nice and the amenities are a plus. I went for a run and the scenery was great and even stopped to pet some friendly horses. They have outdoor hot tubs for the guests that were quite refreshing after my run. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling the Ring road.

Brand new hotel where we received a very warm welcome. Our room was great and we enjoyed the massive gymnasium and hottub facilities. Also the food, both dinner and breakfast, were very good.

Highly recommended!
