Consider making the peninsula drive an overnight experience vs fitting it into one day. It will open up a second opportunity to see things if weather is bad. Hotel dinner here is phenomenal. You should consider coming for dinner even if you aren't staying here (closes at 9p in March at least). They advise a reservation. The peninsula drive is stunning and this hotel is no more than hour away from most anything you'd want to see.

Very classy hotel, the dinner is superb. The room is quiet. And there's a cupboard full of national geographic in 60s, it's like a treasure place to me. Amazing .

Beautiful in winter.haunting exterior with the black church.
Interior of hotel is warm and staff are amazing.
I think this might be my favorite hotel, and I have stayed all over the world.

Overpriced due to the location. Rooms are mediocre, but there are not many alternatives in the vicinity. The hotel seemed to be overrun with American tourists when we were there.

Our $300+ room smelled like cat pee. And all night long as guests pulled into the hotel, their headlights shined into our bed room’s window.

Dinner was outrageously priced (even by Icelandic standards). We splurged on the wine pairing. Generous wine portions not really food-paired other then red with meat and white with fish and “sweet” with dessert. Very basic table wines (think Costco).

Lovely location. Lovely bar.

Highly suggest owner sleep in each room without staff’s advance knowledge.

Located on the Snaefellsjokull peninsula, near the Snaefellsjokull Visitor Centre and Malarriff Lighthouse, Hotel Budir is located on the water, in a casual, comfortable farm like house, is operated by family, has excellent family style cooking. The historic Budir church is nearby, as is the crater of a small, inactive volcano.

We stopped here for lunch and fell in love. Lunch is served in the bar/lounge, where you sit on comfortable plush couches and look out over an incredible view. Ok, you have to balance your plate on your knees, but who cares? In such a gorgeous room, in such a gorgeous location, with such delicious food, it's a pleasure. Do explore the old church and cemetery nearby, and take a path down to the beach. It's all beautiful.

Cosy, romantic hotel in beyond beautiful surroundings. We saw the Northern Lights here and it was nothing short of a miracle. The staff are friendly and breakfast was small but of a high quality. Just an incredible place. Honeymoon happy.

Pros:
The location of this hotel is unsurpassed. It's a charming, cozy place at the end of the world with decor to match — down to the little details like candelabras and fire places. To top things off, the views of the adjacent black church and Wagnerian vistas really set the mood: dramatic mountains, glaciers, lava fields, coastline, and sky. It's really well maintained by a warm, friendly staff and the food at the restaurant is some of the best I've tasted in Iceland and beyond. Looking forward to having our wedding here in the summer.

Cons:
Unfortunately, the hot water wasn't working well during our stay. We found out from the hotel manager that this was due to the wind storm affecting the pumps. Not completely the fault of the hotel, but worth noting that your hot water supply will be at the mercy of mother nature's whims.

Very warm welcome. Great tips on what to see and where to go in the area. Friendly staff. GREAT coffee which is rare outside of the city. Amazing location, Aladdin's Cave of a bar and a nice boutique feel to the atmosphere.
