Must do if you're in Husavik. You can actually see these giants in person. All the skeletons are real. These are not fake. No whales harmed in the making of this museum as the skeletons were from dead beached whales. Admission is fair too and you get a discount if you have a whale watching ticket.

Excellent place to learn about cetaceans and the research going on with them even as close as this bay. Beautiful displays, and even a nice little library to read more about this incredible creatures.

Small but informative exhibit on evolution of whales, types of whales and their behavior, and the history of whaling in Iceland. I enjoyed the reconstructed bones of various beached whales on the upper level. It's interesting to see how small you are in comparison to a whale.
You get a discount to the museum if you show your whale watching tour ticket.

This place was really impressive. First of all, to set your expectations, this is a really small, simple museum. It only contains a handful of rooms and can easily be completely covered in an hour. Even so, the star of the show is the whale bones on display and the images from around Iceland of different historical whale events. The bones are well presented and really interesting. When we were there, they had a blue whale skeleton which was amazing! I would highly recommend this after your inevitable whale watching trip.

Really awesome display. I recommend any tourist to have a look at this whale specific museum with a great variety of specimens and informations especially on history of whaling.

Loved the narwhale skeleton (and the blue whale skeleton). The rest of the museum seems like a middle school diorama. Possibly worth it if you have small children who are really into whales, otherwise I'd skip it.

Saying it was a Whale of a good time is too easy because it was more. Still a museum with an exit through the gift shop. WHICH has less retail price mark up because of its non profit business model. PLEASE VISIT!!!

We visited this museum on an excursion for a whaling trip. It does not seem a very large building from the outside but there is an amazing amount of exhibits packed inside. There is lots to see, a corner especially for children and a gift/souvenir shop and toilets. There was also a section where you could sit down and have a cup of coffee and study the books they had there on whales and whaling. I don't know the admission cost as it was part of our excursion ,but we thought an excellent place to visit.
