Beautiful cave and rock formations along the black sand beach. Only 1m walk from the car park which meant if this is your last stop on a full days south coast adventuring you don't have far to walk!

Free parking and cafe onsite by the car park. Toilets are available but you do have to pay (which you can do by card)

Basalt rocks form the outer and inner wall of the cave. This cave's opening faces the beach. There's enough warning signs to warn tourist of the danger going near the beach area. Take extra care when you are travelling with kids. The waves are very strong and can easily pull you towards the sea.

Breathtaking rock and cave formations with a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean. Be aware that the winds can be -very- intense. We had some snowfall, which together with the wind means pain in the face. So maybe plan your visit when snow isn't expected.

The cave is beautiful and picture perfect. It has a very big opening but it only goes a few feet back so it does not feel like a cave as much as a little alcove. There are basalt pillars that form the cave and make it one of the most unique caves in Iceland. You do have to be careful because the cave is right on the beach and there are "sneaker" waves. I don't know if that is referring to the waves being sneaky or the waves are likely to get your sneakers wet. There are a lot of small waves, but then every once in a while one will be way bigger than the rest. People have drowned at the cave because they are not paying attention and I witnessed a few people get caught by a wave and end up with wet shoes. It is a great place to visit, but keep an eye on the kids while you are there.

If your in Iceland or plan to visit, this is a great place to go. Ocean, Cave, Black Sand, rock formations out in the sea, and the stair rock formations on land make this a wonderful place for photos.

By far one of my favourite places in Iceland! Black sands, the rocks, the sea and sea gulls, puffins and ducks everywhere. Late April early May was by far the best time to be there. Right before the tourist season proper. So, the beach was quiet enough to get my photos in without the large crowds. The light was just perfect and the weather was awesome with bright sunshine and a crisp 4°C. Heaven!

There's so much to see here! The rocks that look like steps, a cave, the black sand beach, and the tall rocks in the water. You can also see the peninsula in the distance. PARking is free here. There is also a shop/cafe here. I am not able to confirm if there are bathrooms in the shop/cafe near the parking lot.

Cool cave on the Black Sand Beach at Reynisfjara. Great spot to take photos. Packed with tourists however.

Beautiful basalt formations. Make your way from the carpark onto the black beach and you'll see the "steps" along the left. It's very popular with tourists climbing a few steps up for photos. The cave is slightly down. Not deep, best viewed from within to see its surfaces.

Do take note that the waves can periodically be bigger (sneaker waves) so watch up for kids and keep your eye open. We saw a seal!!!!

If you're there to photo the further rock formations to the east. Do turn up earlier if the sun is out. The 9am sun was already too harsh.

This came instantly captured my imagination. It looks like came right out of a fantasy novel. It may have been cloudy, but the scenery was still very striking. I loved the hexagonal (?) pillars rising out of the black sand, and the ceiling of the cave was cool, too.

An incredible cave due to the rock formations. The way the rocks glow feels almost artificial! It was very windy, so we didn't get to walk all along the shore.

Basalt vertical pipes. We saw these on Jeju island too but this was much less crowded. Beware the sneaker waves on the beach, apparently a big one can sneak up and snatch you if too close. Our guide says several people a year are snatched and killed. Usually tourists.

The cave is not very deep (you can see the back of from the front). The basalt columns on the exterior of rather cave are fun to climb and take photos on.

The cave isn't big or deep but the rock formations (columnar jointed volcanic rocks) are an unmissable POI. Don't miss it.

We visited the beach while on the south of Iceland tour. I have been on black beaches before, but this is the most interesting one. As well as the black sand, there are rock formations and caves which are very unique. It was very windy during our visit, and it was almost hard to stand upright! The wind and rain made it hard to see what I was looking at, but the photos I took definately helped.
