Place was absolutely phenomenal spent an entire day here. There was a rocky trail that lead to the section. You have to hike it. It looks like there's absolutely nothing but the moment you see it your eyes will widen. One of the best places I've visited traveling mostly all south iceland

Not really accessible in the winter. I drove a 4WD but wasn't able to go pass thick later of snow on the road.

The cutest little place ever. It looked like an enchanted garden. The road to get there is very bad and they recommend that you use a 4X4 vehicle to get there.

This location is hidden in the middle of what appears to be nothing. If you do not have a 4 wheel drive car, you really should park at the sign and walk (about 20-30min) to the actual location.

This place can be really difficult to find and there is not much to mark it. My husband and I thought we may have found it and walked down the road just to see

You will pass pretty much nothing but mountians and goats until the landscape drops down, revealing this natural gem.

Small waterfalls and a fairy tale landscape will appear below you. There are little steps built into the mountain to make your descent easier.
This is really a one of a kind place.

Highly recommended place to see. Lots of waterfalls in a nice setting, quite enjoyable. It was really looking nice and there aren't too many people driving the long road leading to this spot.

This was my absolute favorite place that we visited in Iceland. It is off the beaten path so there weren't that many people there which was nice. A little piece of heaven!

Other than losing my jacket there today, it was so wonderful! It's really worth the visit! We had to leave our 2wd car at the parking lot and were lucky enough that a family with a 4wd car took us with them the 4km road :) The valley looks like a green paradise inside brown-grey rocks. You can walk along some paths and explore the area. All the small rivers and waterfalls make a great picture !

Pictures do not do this place justice.

The road to get there was closed, due to the soil being too soft, so you can't drive on it. It was about a mile and half, easy walk. Once you get there, you can spend a half a day easy.

Gjáin is an amazing set of little waterfalls in a picturesque setting. Looking upon it from the parking area above it looks like a little hobbit village. Plenty of opportunities for some great pictures. It's almost a surreal feeling just walking the paths among the falls and river.

The drive is rough and definitely requires a 4x4. The road signs at both ends said that it was "impassable," but we made it just fine coming from Háifoss (also worth the rough drive) and continuing west/southwest down the road back to highway 32. There are tons of potholes and shallow water crossings, but nothing our RAV4 couldn't handle with ease.

The road was closed in early March and although we had a 4x4 we did not dare to drive as it looked pretty rough. I was not able to find a website that would show the status of the road. I was very excited about visiting this area and see where some game of thrones scenes where filmed, next time!

Beautiful waterfalls and a must visit for any photographer. That said, they're a bit out of the way and definitely require a sturdy 4x4 to get to unless you're up for a ~5km hike from the main highway. Tip: note that the road to it loops around and you can take the shorter (~4km) route from the main road, instead of the ~8km path to get to it.

At the edge of the Icelandic Highlands, you will find profoundly beautiful oasis all over the island. Still, if you ask the Icelanders which of them is the most beautiful, many of them will reply: Gjáin. Gjáin is a small valley and the innermost part of Þjórsárdalur. It is a joy to visit and a wonderful place to take the short but stunning hike through the valley.

Gjain could be the coolest place on earth. As many people have pointed out, it looks like fairies and elves live here and would have made a good set in one of the Lord of the Rings movies. Waterfalls, pools, lava rocks and it's all in a little valley. It's not easy to find but that's half the fun. Look for short stubby poles in the ground with an orange top.

This place is AMAZING! It was absolutely beautiful. There was one major issue. We did not have a 4x4 so we had quite the walk and the bugs were just awful. If you want to go I do recommend a 4x4. I don't mind hikes but the hike wasn't very pretty and a decent length makes it worth the drive.
