I was very excited to see this location and hike around. When driving up to it there was a sign that said closed. People were parked in the upper parking lot and walking down the road so we did the same. It was about a 40 minute walk down to the lower parking lot and the location. Turns out the location wasn't closed, only that paths around it were. There was an environmentalist who made sure we only walked on a bridge to take photos and walked back. You couldn't walk anywhere else. She said the paths were closed because too many people walk off them and have ruined the land. I'm sure the rain we had gotten that day didn't help either. Overall it was really pretty. Please stay on the paths though so they don't shut down this location due to people not following the rules.

Came here end of May 2018. You could walk for the bottom and get a nice picture but sadly no hiking along the ridge. I would give 5 stars if I could have walked but understand that it was being refreshed and was quite muddy.

Photos of this place look amazing. Would have loved to see it but this place was closed for natural protection for a few weeks as of May 21st. Glad the closed sign is right at the highway entrance so you don't have to waste time driving all the way in.

Today the path to the bridge by the canyon was closed so we parked a few kms before where there was a sign blocking the road. Also, some park rangers warned us we could not walk along the canyon as its been too damaged and need restoration. I’m guessing this will be closed for a while, hoping nature will prevail. But from the bridge the canyon is still pretty cool so still worth it!

The beautiful Fjaðrárgljúfur has been closed for access until the 1st of June 2018. The reason is the soil in the area can´t cope with the many feet trotting about. Please do respect the closure if you had intended to visit the place. It needs time to heal.

The parking area is right by the river so you have to hike up the canyon but it is an easy hike and not too steep and totally worth it. The trail goes along the rim and there is a platform and waterfall at the end. All along the way there are great views. The canyon is picture perfect and awe inspiring. There are WCs down by the parking area as well. The ground does get very muddy and soaked after rain so dress for it if need be and be careful around the edge of the canyon.

Came here during a windy winter, which is definitely NOT the best day to visit here 😁. My friends and I didn't have crampons on, and that was a huge mistake. What was supposed to be quite an easy hike turned out to be super challenging and slippery. My boots were pretty fine, but my friends' weren't. They kept falling down and we realized that it was getting dangerous if they keep falling and slipping. So unfortunately, we didn't finish the whole way 😔. Anyway, it's good to be alive! And I managed to take some good pictures too, so that's fine.

Absolutely stunning canyon.
Loved the wild river below, and the great observation point that lets you view the canyon in all it's glory.

The walk was in some places very slippery (ice spots) and was pretty steep. I would recommend it if you are completely out of shape or less abled.
We were there for about 1.5 hours.

There are toilets at the parking but they were all out of order

True beauty and free of charge (you’ll need to save some money for food). If you heard about coming over there only with 4*4 car - ignore them. The road to the free parking is Okay for all cars. Then from parking you can visit 3 viewing points, which you can reach on foot and they are pretty close (will take you about 40 min - 1 hour at all).
For example the very first viewing point is approx 200 min away from parking lot - you can get there with kids.
Also there are toilets next to the parking.
Totally recommend!

Gorgeous! A short hike up to the top of the canyon. Be careful to stay on the paths. All the bathrooms were out of order, so maybe they aren't open during the winter.

Gorgeous valley with a winding trail going up with beautiful spots every couple hundreds of feet to take photos. Must stop and a refresher from all the waterfalls.

Beautiful area! They are still building out the walk ways, so try to stay off the grass. There was a lady there screaming at tourists that were walking on the grass. "GET OFF THE GRASS, STAY ON THE PATH!!" SometimesI think I still hear her

Such a beautiful view! Definitely one of my favourite parts of our trip to Iceland. Much shorter hike than some others we did, but definitely the most scenic.

Beautiful and scenic views. Bring your hiking shoes to see it all. Don't drive up if your car can't take a lot of pot holes. And I mean a lot. It's 10 minutes of driving on a surface that looks like the moon

A must visit site in Iceland. Absolutely spectacular!

WC available at the car park too.

A slight uphill hike, but a good path with good grip.

Please remain behind the barriers for your own safety.
This place is NOT good for young kids running around.

This was so beautiful! We came early in the morning, so it was just the two of us and the sheep. Wonderful views, definitely worth visiting. Schedule approx. 1 hour to walk to the end of the canyon and back. You have to take a short gravel road to get to the parking lot, but you can make it even with a small car. There are toilets and drinking water.

On a cloudy day in late May, the yellows and greens of earth reveal very unique shades in Fjaðrárgljúfur. The trail winds around the top of the walls. After around 30 minutes of hiking, we reached the end of it, and appreciated one of the most beautiful sights our eyes have seen.

Good short strolls up the canyon, love the colors of the canyon, really beautiful landscape. The wind is pretty strong and cold, dress warm. There's toilet facility at the car park. Stone throw away from the car park has a bridge, offering different point of view of the canyon. Short drive on the gravel road for about 5 minutes, the parking is pretty limited.

A short drive off of the main road, it is a beautiful sight to see and not that many people seem to visit it! When the water is lower you can walk along the bottom to the waterfall but otherwise there's a path on top that follows pretty closely to the edge. At the very end there are some metal structures to help you get a great view of the falls and down the stream.

This is one of the hidden treasure in Iceland, and for photographer, it is great because there are very few tourists. The canyon is gorgeous, and it makes a great photography subject. You can only take photo from the top, and It is dangerous to walk down for there is no marked path or foot prints from others. One never knows how deep is the river and what's underneath the snow.

Amazing place, looks like from another planet. You can hike there. When we visited it was covered in snow, but it was breath taking. There is a toilet, apparently not working in winter time

One of the more incredible places in Iceland, please go! Off the highway a little with some parts of the road quite rocky, but we did this is a tiny 4 door car and not a 4WD. But use your own instinct on that. Worth seeing from the bottom and from the look out at the top!
