The outside artwork consists of 34 huge granite eggs which represent the eggs of each of the nesting birds in this area, many of which are migrating birds, flying over to Iceland from far away to lay their eggs in Iceland. This is an artwork by the popular Icelandic visual artist, Sigurður Guðmundsson, called Eggin í Gleðivík - the Eggs at Merry bay.

Situated in the beautiful town of Djúpivogur, Eggin í Gleðivík is an artwork by Sigurður Guðmundsson consisting of 34 eggs, each representing a local bird. All eggs are equally sized except for one representing the red-throated diver which, the official bird of Djúpivogur. It is a peaceful place to enjoy the views and relax on your own or with friends. However if you don't visit this you are not missing out on much, there is plenty to see in Iceland!

Interesting place to visit as each egg represent a bird that is in Iceland. However wouldn't come here if it is to far out of your way. Only came to this place as we camped near here for the night.

We stayed two nights at the Hotel Framtid nearby. We walked to this exhibit and then beyond almost to the lighthouse on the other side of the cliff next to this exhibit.

While this may seem like a simple piece, if you look and think about what this symbolizes, it clearly does it's job. To make one think and admire. Some may not see this. As is always true of artwork, it depends upon the viewer. We liked it a lot. And we loved Iceland.

There was nothing we had planned along the East Coast for stops, so when I saw this landmark slightly off Road 1, I figured we'd stretch our legs and take a couple pictures. Unfortunately it was raining and quite dreary so we didn't stay long. A bus full of tourists arrived as we were leaving too. Would look better without the factory looking building in the background but the egg sculptures were nice. Represents the bird eggs of Iceland. Quite random but nice. If you skip it, that's fine, but there's not a whole lot on the East Coast so why not.

Scuptures of eggs of 34 species of birds found in the region by famous Icelandic artist Sigurd Gudmundsson. Each one unique with the bird name mentioned in Icelandic and scientific name. Nice photo stop a km away from the town. Plenty of free parking at the end of the road. Nice little stroll along the promenade looking at the eggs and touching the smooth cold surfaces. And the art studio just across is worth a visit.

This is a good photo/rest stop if you are driving from Hofn towards Egilsstadir. Peaceful coastline. GPS will guide you to use gravel road, it is accessible from the town Djupivogur via paved road.
