What an absolute delight! A tiny cinema shows a 20 minute film following one family's experience of time before, during and after the eruption, using footage shot at the time. Really gives you a feeling of how resourceful the Icelandic people are. Very reasonable price and an informative static display and small gift shop.

Although you basically just go here to see a movie about how a family survived a volcano eruption, the visit was fascinating for me - it was better than any documentary you can find.

I didn't realize that this volcano's eruption in 2010 (?) kick-started a lot of the tourism in Iceland. Our day tour guide made a quick stop here. Very cool. It was so calm the day we we therehard to imagine how it must have looked in person when it happened.

Interesting Information about the well known eruption of the volcano just across the street and about how the locals dealt with it. Informative movie, nice shop.

The movie quality is not that good, and I hoped for somewhat more spectacular pictures. Mostly it focuses on the hardships of one family living just under the volcano. Movie is 20 minutes. There are some texts to read while you wait. But they do not serve anything.

This is little museum next to the ring road dedicated to the volcano that made itself as peoples enemy earlier this decade by erupting so much ash to the air that Europe had their airports all on standby and no one could fly. You can watch a video about this volcano and by some souvenirs as well. I got the cookies. Haven't eaten them yet. One day

When you make a stop here, don't forget to go watch the movie. It shows you the eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull and what happens with the farms and people who are living at the bottom of it.
It was an amazing movie to see, impressed me a lot.

Excellent small family run visitor information centre. Well worth paying to watch the video about the eruption and the family whose farm was engulfed by the ash.

There's a geothermal spring here and you can take a swim here. Short walk from the car park. Be careful walking there. Bring good hiking shoes and your bathing suit!! The pool is only hot in one end where the geothermal spring water is being brought in by a tube. Stay on the deeper end to experience the hot water.
