Decent quality camp site with excellent views across the lake. Can you spot all 5 different volcanic styles?

Worst camping in Iceland! There are many alternative campings in the area, GO there!
- You cannot charge your phone without paying
- Common rooms do not have heating or electricity, you will be cooking in the dark
- Staff is extremely rude, untrusting and unhelpful (this was the principal reason I did not like the camping)
-They don't accept credit cards
-Many bugs and wind in the camping area
- Hot water smells like rotten eggs because of the sulfate

The campsite is located next to the lake. It has a beautiful view and a well-kept lawn. But, there are too few showers and toilets for the number of campers. There is no possibility to charge your mobile phone or even use a shaver. Charging your phone will cost 100ISK.
The owner is a bit strange. He asks (forces?) us to move our tents 2m because the ducks on the lake needs their privacy. ( We were definitely not too close to some breeding ground or something. It seems to be bullying. Other campers told us, that they had some trouble with him, too. ). But if you follow his rules everything is fine :-)

AVOID THIS PLACE.
The owner of the campsite is very rude and greedy. We stayed there just one night and payed for the camping and bought tickets for the thermal baths from them. We packed our tents the next morning because of the checkout rule which requires all campers to "checkout" by midday. Just because we decided to have a lunch at one of the campsite's table by the lake after 12:00 pm, the owner FORCED us to pay for an extra 1/2 night. He was literally obstructing us to continue our lunch just to make sure we are going to pay him.
Even the hotels that have the checkout rule do not kick you out of their premises once you returned the keys of the room. You can still stay in the hotel's lobby and have your sandwich or a drink.response / report this review -

There are several significant problems with this campsite which made it my least-liked one on a 10-day trip around Iceland. 1. The staff instruct guests to park their vehicles extremely closely together, leaving us with no sense of enjoying the natural surroundings. 2. The campsite is right on the lake shore, a lake whose name in Icelandic means "midge lake," and this name is very accurate - we were in a cloud of insects the whole evening. 3. The toilet and shower facilities are entirely too small for the large number of people they are packing in - and they are unisex, which is uncomfortable for many people. There are other campsites in the area which must be better, if for no other reason than not being right on the shore of Midge Lake.

Full of bugs (midges everywhere), they made everyone park one foot from one another. Would not recommend paying to camp here, it's not worth it. Iceland has lots of land that isn't filled with bugs and where you don't have to be packed on top of one another.

Owner is very rude. We arrived at 11:45pm following our visit to Myvatn Natural Baths (which close at 11:30 during the summer months) only for the owner to come out of his house with his robe on to kick us out and threaten to call the police. We understood that "last call" for the majority of the campsites was at midnight. By far the worse experience I've had in Iceland.

Nice view, okay price, and nice showers. BUT THE PLACE WAS INFESTED WITH FLIES. We couldn't eat without eating flies, we couldn't walk without walking with flies, we couldn't talk without talking with flies, we couldn't breathe without breathing flies. Please, if you want to have a comfortable stay, make sure you check how many flies there are. If you see any kids playing football, you should know that it is legal by Icelandic law to sacrifice them to the fly king, since they stirred up quite a fly ruckus. Me and my friend thought we would have a comfortable stay for the price of 1800 ISK per person (roughly $15) but unless they exterminate all soccer playing kids I can not give this place more stars.

Although the location is nice and the showers are included, stay away from this camping. The owners are rude and will hunt you down to pay. The communal area is just a roof (no heating or kitchen) and on top of all this the price is 1700isk, way too expensive for a camping. There's another camping just up the road that seems better.

Well laid out campground. The amenities were decent but not great. The cooking tent didn't have lighting. Multiple communal bathrooms and showers. Lots of space for larger campers and camper vans. Nice grassed area for tents. Right on the lake with a cattle herd right in the background.

It's a great camping to stay if you're in Myvatn.
Nice views and specially in sunset.
Bathrooms are ok, but the cooking/eat tent has no light and it has no ventilation so you'll end up smelling.response / report this review -

One of the most beautiful camp sites. Good clean washrooms. Come early to book a nice place. Dint use the kitchen. They do have a common kitchen in a big tent

Simple camping spot at the edge of Lake Myvatn. Like everywhere in the area, there are lots of flies, so be prepared and buy a fly net at a local store. Very central spot for exploring the area. There are also two great hiking/running trails out the back of the campground. Trampoline for the kids. Small indoor eating and cooking area that gets very crowded in the summer. We ended up just cooking at our tent. Recommended.
