Fabulous spot, friendly staff and fascinating history. Have afternoon tea at the café, the hostess was great and the cakes scrummy and fresh, endless coffee. It was white and snowy which just added to the atmosphere. Great place

A well-kept secret
Near Glaumbær Folk Museum in Skagafjörður, there is this natural wonder outside of package tours. Stefano, who was our guide from Banaca travel agency and a good connoisseur of this island, took us to this impressive place.
In addition, if it was not enough, just next to this waterfall there is a thermal pool with water at more than 40ºC to delight any seeker of secluded places away from everything.

What a truly amazing experience this place is. If you want to really get an idea of how Icelanders lived in the past you must come here
The turf house is incredibly well preserved and the farmhouse houses another display as well as a fabulous cafe seeking am traditional cakes and goodies.response / report this review -

A fascinating museum close o the ringroad that shows how Icelanders lived through the ages. Several beautifully kept turf houses in admirable condition, a café and a very helpful and informative staff. Well worth a visit!

Nice museum (1600 ISK pp) which shows the living conditions at that time. The outside and some of the smaller houses you can see for free. Also visit the attic of the restaurant as that also has some interesting stuff. The restaurant had very good hot chocolate and also a nice old country feeling.

Although we visited outside opening hours, the museum looks interesting that it provides insight on the olden days. Worth a visit or a detour.

A little open air museum with turf houses, a church and a restaurant.
You can go inside the turf houses. The view from around these houses is great too.

A rebuild of an origin village from the viking time but with a too expensive entry fee. Nice to make a stop. To take pictures from outside, not more.
