Lovely museum. Free audio guide is very usual with lots of 1-2 minute commentaries on the main pieces in each room. Very easy to spend a few hours drifting around a couple of the galleries and still leave feeling there was much more to see. The archeological area gave a nice chronological story all the way up to modern times. The art garden offers some fabulous sculptures with views across Jerusalem. The Dead Sea Scrolls (or at least a few pages) are a must-see, even if the main scroll is just a facsimile.

It would take several days to SKIM the collection. The Judaica and archeology rooms are excellent. The shrine of the book is also really interesting. I would suggest going 2 half days. Really you cannot absorb much after 4 hours. It is kind of of the beaten tourist path. We walked from the old Town. It took about 50 min. And 3.5 hilly miles. Cab ride is about 15 min. We went on Shabbat. Perfect. No school groups. It was not crowded and very pleasant.

This is an absolute world-class Museum. It has great art exhibits. Great history exhibits. This is addition to Israel specific exhibits. This place is really worthwhile visiting if you're in Jerusalem

It's a "must" place to visit if you are in Jerusalem. You can definitely learn a lot from the culture, history and from the Jewish culture. It's the place where you can also see old manuscripts from the Bible and this is one of the most interesting sites of the museum, you can actually "immerse" on a jar which emphasizes the experience.

Highly recommended museum. The exhibits are diverse and well designed. You can spend more than just one day and enjoy all that the museum has to offer. There is also a beautiful garden with a view of Jerusalem and statues.

Excellent archaeology and fine art exhibitions. A must when visiting Israel. Takes a whole day. After a visit there is a great park to cross if you want to go into the city center by foot. Your ticket makes a 50 percent discount on your next visit within 3 months.

Great museum. Lots of exhibits. Lots of human history here. Can easily spend hours reading and looking at the exhibits. I highly recommend having a tour guide to help tie everything together. But you can also meander around and read the descriptions.

I'm sure the museum is great but we came as a tour bus at 12 and it was closed. The only things open are the dead sea scrolls and a model of Jerusalem. Can be seen in 30 minutes. The dead sea scrolls we're fascinating but the staff was rude and stared at you the whole time. The hot chocolate in the cafe by the entrance was delicious and she was very nice.

The best Israel museum. I especially like a section that shows ancient world. Also collection of Judaica is really impressive. Additionally, there are interesting theme exhibitions that include both old and modern art

Loved my time at this museum! There is a wonferful outdoor art area that took me by a very pleasant surprise. The museum itself is massive. I spent about 2 hours inside and didn't get to see everything I wanted to. Awesome place to get lost for a few hours.

This is the modern Israeli culture and art Temple at the West Jerusalem 'Acropolis'. They have a nice collection, interesting and modern architecture (of the entrance buildings and shaded path way) and a very young and creative way of always changing exhibitions and activities that have a holistic approach to all activities and user around a museum. Just today I was there in a kid performance with integrated handicraft workshop (connected to an exhibition), in a clever and creative escape room activity with hints and tasks all over the museum and it the classic and special exhibitions, seeing also the 2nd Temple Jerusalem model, a cool kids movie about the Dead Sea scrolls and more.

Few points of critic:
The original architectural layout of the Museum campus including its paths for its users are quite presumptuous and arrogant, being bombastic and bureaucratic and missing human scale and respect for the user, his wishes and feelings and comfort and convenience. You feel this design is about some big secular ideas from the modernist area without giving much about the people using it.
Also the architectural design of the shrine of the book is a bit symbolic pathetic.

I've been to many museums, all around the world, and this one is truly one of my favorites. I've been there more times than I can count but never got bored because it's such a special museum and there's always so much to see. The thing I love about this museum so much is that there is something for anyone there. No matter what your age is or what you're interested in, you're guaranteed to find something that will amaze you. Something that will catch your eye.
I recommend this place to literally everyone, it's absolutely fantastic!

Indeed an encyclopedic museum. Artifacts from all over the world. And Shrine of the Book is a must to visit. Although the visit can be completed in around two hours, it might take whole day to see and understand everything. Staff are friendly and nice. Restaurants and book & souvenir shops serve all needs. Very nice place. Do not miss in Jerusalem.

It's a HUMONGOUS museum with a lot of history & archeology. I didn't do the entire thing yet but the whole thing probably takes a full week if u go 4 a full day. Pictures inside r not allowed 4 security reasons

Museum is a great place to visit. The atmosphere is wonderful and is very pleasant to everyone:to children and adults.
There is a free one hour tour with a professional guide for the most important exhibitions of the museum but in the day that we visit the museum the guide was ill and after waiting an a half hour (!) the museum workers announced that the tour is canceled and even without apologies!
You can visit the museum once more with the same ticket and pay only a half of the price, so may be we will be more lucky

This museum nicely summarizes the many layers of history in the region. The collection of artifacts is truly one of the best in the world. There's also an impressive collection of art. One could spend many days at the Israel museum.

Wonderful recreation of the Old City of Jerusalem as it was at the time of Jesus - ever changing as new information comes to light. And the display of the Dead Sea Scrolls was awesome. Another piece of Bible history. We didn't get to see very much because we were on a tour - I would have liked to have had a couple of hours to let it all sink in.
