We do a lot of travelling to Dublin and every experience we have had with Sixt is always a positive one (for that we are especially grateful after such a long flight!). Lovely selection of vehicles and at an affordable price. The pick up/return are always very quick and full disclosure is always given in advance. Thanks guys!
Very prompt service, and excellent value on the car. I think there is new management in place as they were really really good. Would certainly recommend again for next rental car in Dublin.
Man I wish I read the reviews ahead of time before renting from sixt. They don't cover road side assistance. So in the case of your car getting a flat or a bumper to bumper where you are unable to drive, they let you pay for the fee for rescue. Rent from someone else who offers road side assistance insurance!!!! Zero stars. And this was after they convinced me to use their insurance that would cover EVERYTHING Everything. Even after asking road side assistance what is covered they simply say "we don't know" and they don't warn you about the fact that they don't refund you for road side assistance for a flat tire, no warning at all or I would have fixed with the spare myself. Nope. Never ever EVER again. Travelers beware!!!!!
When you get to the desk you will be made to wait to 30 minutes or more. Then told you either need to pay insurance or forfeit the original booking fee you paid. When you return they will treat you just as bad. These guys don't give a stuff about their customers and don't deserve your business.
And the Saga CONTINUES! Not only did they tell me they had to charge me the Zero excess insurance because they couldn't use my 'Debit' Mastercard to secure the excess in case of an accident. They just went ahead and charged my card 1 month later!!!
Think you can use your credit card's CWD? You better come prepared with a letter from your card stating that it's valid in Ireland. A printout from the website will not do. Also, you better have room for a EU3000 (!!!) hold on your card, otherwise they force you to take out their very expensive insurance.
Also, make sure your phone is fully charged when you get there if you plan to call your credit card company, because they block all their power plugs so that you can't use them.
They also make sure there is no WIFI in their rental place, so you need to return to the terminal to get any information.
Basically, these guys have figured out all the ways to rip you off as much as they can, while working reeeally slowly to make sure you spend at least one hour in a lineup before they can rip you off.
avoid like the plague.
I use hire cars twice a month In Dublin. Never be back to Sixt. Waited 25 min first bus Budget driver felt sorry for me and picked me up. Then waited 1.5hrs to get car only 2 girls who chatted. Surely you staff to cars booked! Budget..Avid.. Doolyes excellent !
What a sham. Forget the 1.5 hour lineup in this dump. When we got to the counter, the rep said we had to put $1500 on our credit card for insurance. Said we needed to get an note from our insurer/credit card company to get an exemption. Whaaat? I've been renting cars from reputable places like Enterprise and Hertz for ages. Never heard of anything like this. Big mistake. Never again. Steer clear of this dodgy operation.
Falling apart vehicle - worse customer service! I rented a 9 passenger van from Sixt Rental at Dublin Airport for family vacation to tour Ireland. I was handed a key from a nice gentleman at kiosk in airport, but that was the only positive thing I can say about Sixt Rental. Arrived downstairs at vehicles. Wasn't the nicest vehicle I have ever rented, but thought would be okay. No one from Sixt Rental met us at vehicle to complete inspection paperwork or check us out. Just handed us the key upstairs! I soon found out why On our first stop to purchase fuel, I realized the wheels/hub caps were falling off 2 of the tires. Upon inspection, they were being held on by zip ties. My kids opened sliding rear door to get out of back seat, the door came off the tracks and practically fell to ground. I then took closer look at entire vehicle Broken lens on fog lamp (light rusted so broken for awhile), missing piece to back lift gate and when it rained and I turned on rear window wiper, it just scraped the window because there was no wiper blade installed. I pulled out my contract paperwork to call customer service. I then realized the Sixt representative had signed us up for fuel refill at E105 Euro (even though I had declined) as well as additional insurance coverage I did not need. During our trip, I received "Brake Fault" warning lights. I called Sixt Customer Service 3 times and emailed Customer Service 3 times. I never received the call/contact within 24 hours as promised. Upon return of the vehicle, I informed attendant of the issues with van and especially the "brake fault" warning light. Attendant informed me he remembered this vehicle and it should not have been rented. I spoke with Customer Service - Finally - and they have promised to reimburse me for the fuel refill charge and give me 10% off my rental for condition of vehicle - amounts to approx. $60 US. I feel I was deceived into additional charges by representative and they knowingly rented sub par vehicle (why they didn't bother to check conditions). Customer Service was poor and they now tell me they cannot assist with additional charges because the van has been rented already. Maybe if they answered my calls or emails, they could have helped prior to the end of my rental.
My Advice..stay clear of Sixt Rental! If you have to use Sixt, detail check vehicle before hand and make the long walk back to the desk yourself to turn in the "vehicle condition" document or change vehicles. Do not trust the process. As a 32 year industry manager, this experience was by far the only negative experience we had on an otherwise glorious trip to Ireland for the first time. Can't wait to go again but will rent from a reputable car rental company NOT SIXT!
If you looking for a rental in Dublin airport I strongly advise NOT to use Sixt. All based upon +3 hour waiting to collect a pre booked vehicle. The que of cusatomers grown outsied their building with upset people in the same situationas as us. When contacting local manager to highlight this abnormal queing time he doesent admit any time for queing and a directly lie to me and several customers. So - please try an other service if you dont like to burn valuabale hours of your vacation waiting for a rental!!!!!
What a disorganised chaos! Stood in a queue for close to 2 hours at Dublin airport, to get a contract drawn up, waited some 20 mins for the shuttle to take us to the depot, where we had to wait another 90 mins to collect a car which was not even cleaned properly from the previous rental. We were just being pushed around like sheep, and no explanation or apology was given by Sixt staff. We wasted the entire afternoon, just trying to collect a vehicle, which had been booked months in advance. We will certainly not use your services again!
Car hire companies typically conspire to ruin your holiday but these guys managed to reach new heights of idiocy. The shuttle bus never arrived, thankfully the Hertz driver (on his second or third trip) was kind enough to take us! The Sixt team also thought it would be smart to hand out leaflets with a map to the OLD location, hence we drove around in a mad panic when trying to drop the car off, eventually we stumbled across a small sign on the roadside telling us about Sixt's temporary location - down a tiny road with massive holes in it, we nearly missed our flight! Never again
I would strongly recommend against renting from Sixt in Ireland. Poor management is evident throughout each step of the process. My experience below:
The total price of the booking was 40% higher than what I had confirmed online due to a mandatory insurance that was not mentioned in the initial booking. The online booking was for €349 and the total cost was €580 (photo below). If the initial booking had outlined a price of €580 I would not have booked with Sixt, so I asked the customer service representative at Dublin Airport to cancel. He said that I could not receive a refund for the initial €349 leaving me with the options of paying an additional €231 or losing €349. Given that it was 3pm on Christmas Eve I paid the additional money.
The first car I was brought to had a damaged tire so the Sixt employee who showed us to the car recommended that we get an alternate. The second car had very visible spit on the passenger seat and on the inside of the passenger window (see photo). On the third car, an upgrade to a midsize, the tire pressure warning indicator was on but we took it because we were running out of time. The whole process (again, Christmas Eve) took close to two hours and cost me €230 I did not expect to pay.
I have lived and travelled around the world. Usually a certain amount is charged to your card for insurance and refunded if no damages/accident. I paid for my car rental weeks ago prior to traveling about €700. I got to Dublin airport and was told I they would charge €2000 to my cc which was fine, then I had to pay additional €350 for insurance which wasnt refunded at the end of the rental period In the case there is no accident. I find this ridiculous! Sixt basically makes €350 extra. A stupid employee ask me if my insurance company refunds me insurance on for my car. Its my personal car! It doesn't belong to the insurance company! If I return my rental car accident free then the insurance should be refunded. I had to cancel my reservation and of course they charged €150 for cancellation.
