I was referred to Crumlin as a child to have a spinal x-ray performed. I was never informed prior to the appointment that an injection (dye) would be necessary. I had an intense fear of needles, but I had no issues receiving an injection so long as I was given a short moment (usually less than a minute) to prepare myself and was allowed to watch the needle approach and break the skin and the injection happening.
I asked the woman for a moment to prepare myself. She was very impatient and accused me of wasting time. In response, she had a number of nurses assist her in physically restraining me over a table as they force the dye injection into me. They also forcefully turned my head away and blocked my view, which was a huge issue for me considering I always needed to watch the needle during injections. And it took them a while to get it into me. If anything, those women were wasting time themselves. It would have been over much sooner if they had given me a chance. I had bruising all over my arms and chest as a result of the incident.
I hear a lot of great things about Crumlin hospital but my experience was horrible. That's no way to treat a child with a fear of needles, especially a child who's trying to reason with them, not outright deny the injection. They were not very understanding and clearly inflexible. These are bad attributes for people working with children.
Caring for sick children with the highest professionalism and sensitivity
Our son (2 yr 11 months) came via ambulance with my husband around 8pm on 16/09/2017 whilst I was on my way from Galway. He was running a pretty high fever and was given Calpol and Nurofen by paramedics. He also had running tummy and was throwing up every now and again. Blood sugar recorded 4,6. Appetite was gone. Clearly very weak. Upon arrival at the hospital the nurses checked his temperature again and parked him and my husband in the waiting room with a cup of apple juice to bring his bloods up and help with the gastro. I arrived from Galway and headed straight to the hospital. 11pm the doctor had not attended to him and no further tests had been done to establish why his fever kept running high. 12:30am we query the long wait and the nurse gives us a brief explanation of a triage system whose application and decisions thereof I'm wondering since no vitals have been used to determine who goes first. In the meantime my son is still losing fluid, eyes paling and clearly weak. No explanations provided for the loooooong wait, no apologies until we complain. Nurse explains that the doctor.whom we have been waiting for a long time for - is the only one who can give instructions for any checks that need to be done. 1:30am - finally get to see the doctor who then tells us that our son would need to stay for observation and will be checked by another doctor to see how he is responding. Now I'm wonderinganother wait It's a flat NO rating for me for this hospital. Oh, and I'm a type 1 diabetic as well so there's 2 patients now as a result of this disservice Worst ER service ever!!
Best hospital for children. Doctors and nurses and all the staff go above and beyond.
Our Lady's Hospital has a very efficient & modern Emergencey room with all the services & is very efficiently run,The staff are very helpful & understanding! The hospital offers phone services, paid parking, convience shops & a large canteen with great variety in food!
Broke my wrist today, came in to the hospital and had to wait 4 hours for my cast to be put on which took about 10 mins. A lot more staff needed, however the staff were really nice.
Fantastic staff, supportive and understanding. Please do allow time to park
Kind and prompt care where the nurses went out of their way to make my daughter comfortable and at her ease.
Our son had a awkward break in his arm and needed surgery. Everyone we dealt with was nice and professional.
We were referred here when our son had cut his hand on broken glass in the car park at the Killiney Beach. Instead of going to the beach, we made a quick dash to this hospital, where we were treated with utmost professionalism, efficiency, and kindness that is so important when dealing with a hurt kid.
Within 40 minutes we checked in, our son went through triage, was seen by three doctors, had an Xray taken for remnants of broken glass, and finally had his cut hand cleaned, treated and fixed with exceptionally tender care.. My wife and I were with him through all this and everything was explained to us and to him in an accessible way.
It is of course best not to have to go to a kids' hospital but if you have to, we should like to highly recommend this one!
