I stayed at O'Loughlins hotel during Electric Picnic 2017. On the plus side the hotel is in a good central location in Portlaoise, the rooms were small but clean, and the housekeeping/chambermaid staff were pleasant. Otherwise I am afraid it would be zero stars. Prices were grossly inflated for Electric Picnic, as you would expect. There was an electricity outage on the Saturday - when we arrived we were informed of this and told it would impact us only in that there would be no hot showers between 9 and 5 on the Saturday. In reality there was no running water whatsoever, either hot or cold, so no using the toilet, having a drink of water or whatever. There was no power whatsoever, so no way to charge phones etc. Some of the lights were stuck in the on position, ie the lights above the beds. The electricity outage was outside of their control in fairness, as was planned ESB works, but they did have the power to respond appropriately ie offer guests a bottle of water and some wet wipes or a voucher to have a shower in a lesiure centre nearby. Instead they responded by having no-one whatsoever on site all day - reception was deserted. Breakfast was served at a cafe down the road where an inept waiter dropped somebody else's breakfast into my lap - no offer to clean this up, which would have been good as I had no way of rinsing my clothes under the tap to get off the grease. On checkout they seemed surprised when we said we felt their customer service response was poor. After a week of chasing - 5 phone calls to them which really rubbed salt into the wound, why not just ring back and make some customer service amends? - we were offered a refund of 24 euro out of the total bill of 360 per person that we paid for 3 nights accommodation. A complete rip off. They know they are shooting fish in a barrel at Electric Picnic and made us feel like a nuisance rather than customers. Avoid.
This was an AMAZING lunch! Our family of 5 (kids age 15, 13 and 11) stopped here for lunch on the drive from Dublin to Killarney. The food was great and the service excellent.
The only good thing there is the shower. Too much noise. The Room was descent
