Clean & comfortable basic hotel situated on edge of Ballina town. Everything worked as expected, staff were very helpful and friendly especially when they knew that hotel would be close for three months from next week.

Over the last week end my sister & I stayed in the Hotel Downhill Inn in Ballina, Co. Mayo.Going westwards was a rather hasty decision and booking B & B's was difficult. Most places could only do one night. Then we decided to ring Hotel Downhill Inn. The lady who answered the phone was most pleasant and we later learned her name was Nicola. She was a pleasure to deal with. She went out of her way to help us. She was so booked up she could only give us one night but declared somebody might cancel by morning. Next morning she rang several places and eventually had a cancellation. She then told us we could stay second night.
As it was our first time to stay there we thoroughly checked every Angle of the Hotel.
We were given a very nice clean room with very clean bathroom and plenty of clean towels etc. The shower was one of the old fashioned ones but after 10 seconds we got used to how it works and then no problem ! All the sleeping quarters were in our opinion excellent. Clean comfortable and relaxing. Very peaceful no noise. The bedroom had a hairdryer. There was a laundry bag for anybody who needed washing. They could even arrange hairdressing facilities nearby should it be necessary.
Coffee & Tea making facilities in the room so one could have a nice relaxing cuppa at night time while watching TV. If there was anything needed all anybody had to do was ring downstairs and ask.
BREAKFAST was lovely with several different types of cereal. Lovely Apple Juice or Orange Juice. Great selection of breads and even greater selection of eatables.
DINNER. In the evening the dinner menu was simiilar. Many choices - all lovely. I ordered a dish & learned it had Mustard in it (which I am allergic to). The lovely lady Manager Nicola declared she would get it made without the Mustard in it. There was a great helping of food in all dishes. There was a Bar there too. It was well run and all the staff were lovely.
It seems to be a family run business and Nicola is in charge. She does her job very well.
We could highly recommend everything about the Hotel. Free Parking, Wi-Fi.
It would be a great Hotel for mid- week breaks of 2 or 3 nights if one might be able to get bit of a deal.
    Highly Recommended
    Margaret

Staff were very friendly, food was lovely although rooms could do with updating. Bathroom was definitely in need of a lot of work. Would stay again though at right price.

The carpet in our room was dirty and not vacuumed. Dinner and breakfast were cheap. Building looks nice from the outside, but the rooms are outdated and used. Loveless service!

Old and dirty rooms (see pics). Found more than 2 different hairtyps in my bathroom! The silver for the dinner was dirty (spoon AND fork). Cheap food from the freezer, nothing special but at least eatable. No pubs or grocery stores near the hotel.
I wonder how this hotel got 5 star ratings on Google maps.

Le wifi ne passe pas dans les chambres du premier étage. Très petite écran de télé.

Whilst we enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Hotel, very friendly staff excellent
food, we were somewhat disappointed when checking out and proceeding
towards the exit to be queried by the female co-owner did we pay for our
breakfast. As we had paid for same some time previous to a member of
    staff.
Perhaps she might consider a course in communication as being suspected
of theft is not very nice.
