What a great find at a great price for even the night before St. Patrick's day! It was all around great sercice, building, vibe, and location in general! There's a small common room with a pool table and a large kitchen where breakfast is served in the morning. The entire building was so pretty and fun and I would love to stay again!

Facilities were clean, breakfast covered the basics and the hostel staff were lovely (24 hour reception was great) and helped us book a shuttle to the airport. Unfortunately the beds were uncomfortable and mattress did squeak, but nothing out of the ordinary for a hostel.

One of worst experiences I’ve had on my travels. Now, I don’t travel a lot, so I haven’t seen the worst of what hostels offer, but what I have seen this is by far the worst. I got charged an arm and a leg for a 4 person coed room, when hotels in the same we’re around the same price. The rooms were small, cramp and very unclean. The shower was to small to really stand in, you didn’t have enough room to sit on the toilet, and the mold in the bathroom was a nice touch aesthetically. The breakfast was very lacklustre. But I could deal with that. What was the nail in the head was after I complained that the other two people in my room (only 3/4 beds were filled) were hooking up on the bed above me, I was kind of just pushed to the side. Again, maybe sex in a shared room is normal for hostels, but I certainly didn’t appreciate it. And when the staff response is “well they’re done now, go back in and sleep” without so much as even an apology, it’s clear that they really don’t care. If this had been the first hostel I stayed at it would have convinced me to never use them again, especially as it’s advertised with some other really good ones like St. Christopher’s Edinburgh. The quality and size of the room paired with how rude the staff was made a decent stay in Dublin into a terrible one.

It's the cheapest place in Dublin. I suggest this place if you stay for a little time(you haven't much privacy because there are many beds in a room). You can talk with a lot of people and the staff is very lovely.
In my point of view it is good for students

Very nice place to stay. The staff were professional and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable. Avalon house is a 2 minute walk to the area with many good bars and restaurants, and the mall. This was my first stay at a hostel, we went with a private room and I'd choose this over a hotel every time in the future.

Nice place. Nice reception. Well clean. No problems.. The only problem is taking a shower in the winter. The shower is good and hot but you need to press many many times for water. Maybe 20 or 30 second of water per pressing the buttom.

This place is really terrible. Worst hostel I've ever been to. There are much better places in Dublin.
    - 2 sockets in a 4 bed room
    - awful Internet, spends a whole hour to connect then promptly drops connection again.
    - no locker/storage box in room
    - printing costs 0.5 euro per page - every hostel I've been prints anything for you at no charge
    - who the hell thinks it's a good idea to set up solar powered heater in a hostel in a city full of cloudy days?! I ended up not taking a shower for two nights with no hot water. The bathroom is also too small and feels gross.

This hostel also makes me feel like they try to charge you for everything. Not a good way to treat customers.

Location isn't even great. You still need to walk 15-20 minutes to the major locations.

I stayed over a weekend in April and found the Hostel perfect for the job. Very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It is a great location for exploring Dublin from. I didn't do breakfast on either morning so can't comment on that. Room was good and it didn't matter what time of day or night that I used the showers or toilets, they were always in immaculate condition.

WATCH OUT WHEN BOOKING THROUGH THE AVALON WEBSITE!!! I booked a room for the 1st of July, I took extra care on checking I had selected the date as I seen a review where someone had booked and they were confirmed for the wrong date). Low and behold the exact same thing happened to me, on my confirmation email I was booked for tomorrow, conveniently outside the 24hr cancellation date. When I contacted the hostel they could cancel my room without charging but I would lose my deposit, and they could not give me another room for my chosen date. I am still trying to get my deposit back. Just a warning when booking, this was very disappointing as I had stayed with them before and had a great time.

Quirky atmosphere, great rooms and good breakfast! At the time of staying there were no kitchen amenities so I would have given a lesser score but they are renovating and it looks like the facilities to come will be very convenient
