I'm an American citizen and I have to say that this embassy is beyond terrible. Incompetent staff - absolutely uninformed - plus they don't even act like they want to help. Their automated phone service doesn't work but if you manage to get passed that, they still won't answer the phone. They make being an American in Indonesia much harder than it has to be.

This is a typical American embassy for national and foreign services. However for me, the difference is that they are patient, helpful, and responsive and they provide a number of additional ‘small things’ that go a long way. The people who work here have all been courteous when dealing with us and accommodating given that we are usually trying to manage several children as well. Emails are normally checked once per day and replied within 1 day. If an American is enrolled in the STEP program, they provide helpful or critical updates about situations in Jakarta or Indonesia. The embassy has also gone through a number of renovations with a whole new building; these updates make it easier and provide a more pleasant/beautiful experience. The older building was dated and quite small (it’s now a redone bathroom building on the way to the main building).

Issue for some people revolve around security. Sure, there might be some issues here but they need to keep things safe. You can’t bring electronics inside and they won’t let you bring and store larger devices like iPads at the security entrance. You can’t park here (or nearby for that matter) so you either need to take public transit, a taxi/grab/driver, or park and do some walking. During the pandemic, this has to be the most frustrating part of visiting for us, but there’s not much that the embassy can change to accommodate the situation.

Extremely helpful on a short notice and able to work with us to make sure our emergency passport was completed. We actually were able to get ahold of them via phone and email and they streamlined the process and allowed items to be blank if they weren't needed. This was a breathe of fresh air because the US Consular in Bali was completely useless for about 8 of the 10 days we had available, where we then called these guys and they made it happen in 2 days. Found a flight same day, drove to the airport and processed the emergency passport in under 2 hours. We are very thankful for the competence of this Embassy.

Wow! They get you in and out of there very efficiently. Normal embassy process with checking in all your electronic items. Reminder no laptops and they can't store larger electronic items

Completely impressed with security outside helping me get a taxi back to train station and translating in Indonesian for me.

They leave me with no clue why I can't get my M1 visa. They blamed me as international student why not changing school if something happen with previous school. F1 or M1 visa can't change freely or easily move to other school (even I already in US). I guess they have to read their own rules more.

good evening Mr/Mrs,i would like to now the information from your office.because it has been to weeks i got the information that,in your office UN EMBASSY there is cleaning security stamp of the money. cause i got the package ( money ) from Caxia bank in Spain . The said could't sent the money via account because to much ( $ 7,7000,000 ) so the took the option sending via UN EMBASSY.
