It's trully in the heart of the city. You're 5 minutes walk to the train station where you can find airport train there. Across the hotel is Merdeka Walk, a place where you can hang around, have some food, or just grab some drinks. Attached to it is Lapangan Merdeka, you can jog here. If you prefer local food, there's lot of food stall around the area at night, just walk. Large room, nice bathroom, good internet connection. Tasty food, eventhough limited options compare to other four or five star hotels (i guess aston is always like that in any city). Nice water pressure.
The minus thing is the deposit. I stayed for two nights, paid 1.5 million rupiahs, and i have to put deposit 800thousand rupiahs, crazy as hell. They told us that if we lost the room key, we will be charged 250thousand rupiahs for one key, when it's actually written 30thousand rupiah in the key holder. It's very unusual. Careful with the key. Another thing, be patient with the elevator, they're so slow 🤦
Wowblown away by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Conveniently located. Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Would absolutely stay here again.
Nice hotel in the centre of Medan Citym The room is good, comfortable bed, clean and nice bathroom. Breakfast are very generous with vary of food.
Pros :
+The hotel was good, big and clean. Its right in the hearth of Medan.
+At the first time we arrived the fo team was very attentive, with no hassle in c.i process..in 5 min we got the room key
+Its clean, comfort and big enough for two.
+Bathroom is also clean
+Varieties of food in bfast buffet is good, specially kue talam its makes you addicted
+Free shuttle to medan stasion is value add for services
+FO allowed us to get late c.o at 13.00 while we can adjust with airport train schedule easily
Cons :
-Circuit breaker box in room, its should be covered for security reasons
-Taste of food in bfast buffet should be improved, some of foods are plain
-The staff attentive in bfast are also something tobe noticed, they didn't offer you a coffe/tea if you not asked, event when they pouring tea to guest behind my table they didn't offer to refilled my cup which was empty.
Again, i need refill me and my wife cup of tea by my self after we have been wait for 15mins since my wife asked to 1 of waiter for refilled it. But he never came to our table even he has time when he taken an egg order in egg station just beside my table
It was 6.10 - 6.40, the restaurant not in rush and less than 10 tables of guest.
Luxury place, got a ballroom, not really big but enough to make great party, the place is clean enough, have a great outdoor place also. Overall, i think it's great to stay here for a couple of days
Their service is good so cool. loved it thank you so much.
Overall a good hotel if you want to stay in the middle of Medan. The room is clean and neat as you would expect from Aston group. The staffs, however, are not as nice as other Aston Hotel like Aston Cirebon or Aston Bali. This is one point for improvement for Aston Medan.
Great spacious room, facilities (crazy gym!) decent breakfast buffet and service.
Good location, just across Merdeka Walk. Room spacious. Breakfast with good option. Gym is big with yoga, aerobic and rpm class, i guest its open for public membership. Sauna, steam and hot whirpool at spa area.
Best service for both apartment and hotel. Layout and circulation for access is really convenient. Facilities are well prepared. They had lounge, pub/club, salon, hall, meeting rooms, and others. Hall and meeting rooms can be rented for cetain purposes such as wedding party, seminars, etc. My favourite is their breakfast, they have so many choices and all of them are delicious!
Lux, elegant hotel, but the lobby's lightning is a little dark. More bright will be nice. Price is equal with the facility. Well done.
Superb service and friendliness, living up to its reputation. Unique architecture, strategically placed just behind the former City Hall of Medan. Easily within walking distance from Stasiun Medan, which is essentially your easiest access to the city center from the Kualanamu airport (through a railway service).
Very comfortable and nice place to stay during work trip or holiday. They serve delicious breakfast too. 😇
The best hotel in Medan with luxury place, comfortable place with complete facilities and good service, at an affordable price for all people, must be visited
Location was very good as it is near the city centre. The rooms are clean and spacious, however I couldn't get the rain shower to work.
This was overall a very lovely hotel with a few downsides. We arrived around 4 in the afternoon and were told that our room was still not ready though and were made to wait a while before checking in. They offer transportation to the airport, but it seemed excessive pricey in comparison to how much everything costs in Indonesia. The staff were very friendly, but unlike many other places we stayed in Indonesia, many of the staff do not speak much English as the hotel seems to cater more to Chinese clientele. I would not recommend getting wine in any of their restaurants. We paid the equivalent of $75 US for a bottle of wine, only to later discover this is a bottle that goes for $3.50 a bottle in the US (shame on me for not knowing my wine better). We stayed in the spa suite, but the spa is empty when you arrive and takes an incredibly long time to fill, so we were not able to really use it. Their hotel spa is great, we had 2-hour massages, which were very good.
A great hotel in Medan. It have good location and the breakfast is great. Many options and very delicious
The hotel has THE location, best place to access the city
The good :
Clean rooms
Convenient in room controls,
Adequate facilities to make your stay comfortable
Fair choice of food and well priced accommodation
Can be improved :
I booked on booking. Com with a king bed as special option, I was offered twin bed
The AC was not silent and the noise was not irritating but discomforting
Bar has limited and overpriced selection
We were just 3to4 souls at the bar but the live music was loud as hell that I could not take a single call, and the music selection was dated and could not grab any hang of it
Still the place is recommended for business travelers
Large room with great views. There's also a table for working and a sofa for relaxing. Great overall experience, highly recommended.
5-Star Hotel with excellent facilities and hospitality. Located in the heart of Medan, it's only 2 minutes of driving away from Medan's train station. Making it very accessible from the airport's train.
A good hotel can be determined by the small thing provided such as the amenities. Not sharp razor and smelly towel surely are not appreciated by the guest.
The hotel must give great appreciation to the staff since the staff is the only great value for the hotel. They are very nice, very polite and always with big smile.
Great place in Medan! Rooms excellent - new, neat, clean and the place is very well maintained. Haven't seen such a nice Fitness Centre in any hotel. Absolutely great place. Food is also great.
Great Hotel in Medan. Near Merdeka Walk. Easy to find foods (dinner and lunch) if you want to eat outside hotel.
Also got Entrance. (LIVE MUSIC)
Clean and good services. Friendly for family. My fave hotel in Medan.
The room is clean but a little bit dark need more light in the room. The hall way sic nice because they got ionizer near the lift. The pools is great the kids have much fun their. And don't forget the breakfast the best i ever taste after JW Marriote.
Nice apartment but little bit pricey.. the water is limited and we must cook water on our own. But overall nice, comfy and clean. The apartment also got kitchen.
Wouldn't recommend you staying here. For a hotel with this reputation, I was disappointed by the quality of its services. First off, rooms are actually ok, just quite oldish and the furniture not of best quality. Also, most staff was friendly. However, what they offer as "breakfast" is mostly not worth eating: an orange juice that tastes nothing like orange (same goes for the other juices), bread that is just a disgrace for real bread and many other products that make the impression that you could buy them as fast food in any convenient store next door. The beautiful old town hall, now part of the Hotel, was regrettably excessively renovated and is now a sterile place with not much character anymore. The menu with its pictures there resembles a cheap restaurant – the prices certainly don't. Topping this experience off was an unpleasant surprise when checking out: a almost 10$ laundry surcharge for Betadine stains on my bed cover. Ridiculous.
We booked for non smoking room 2 weeks ago, instead we get smoking room and there are no non smoking room left. So unprofessional
Nice hotel at heart of city. The opposite of this hotel is Merdeka Walk, the food stall
Great location near Banteng Square ( Lapangan Ban teng ) City Hall.
Great place for meeting, good location near merdeka walk..but, is ot really 5 star hotel? No face towel n minibar on the room
1 of the best hotels in Medan with view to Merdeka Walk & near the airport train station. Spacious room & they have 1 of the best clubbing place in Medan.
Nice ambience. Good location. Spacious room. Wide & fully equipped fitness room compare to aston's fitness rooms in other cities
went here for birthday party. and this place really impressed me. bc it was classy and well Servis. also the food is quite okay. although some of it doesn't.
They lend you clothes for sauna. The gym is also nice and the equipments are complete and in good condition. Food is good. The service is good. The hotel is beautiful, located next to the old city hall and near the train station. In front of he hotel is Merdeka Walk where you can find a lot of restaurants and cafe there.
a very nice place to stay and relax. located in the center of the medan city. the service was excellent and the food on offer is very diverse and delicious.
The room is spacious, near to eating places
Luxurious hotel with many great things to offer, including excellent dining experience.
A cozy & nice place to stay in Medan. The view is awesome, you can see part of Medan city from the high.
Nice place to stay. Near merdeka walk which is a good place to grab a bite. Room is spacious and quite comfy.
Decent hotel conveniently located. Restaurants are pretty weak. Good gym.
White pillars, towering clock, business hotel, merdeka walk, iconic vintage building
Arrived at the city at night, I saw a building with tall white pillars, crystal lamps and towering clock, I told my friends how spooky that building is. I ended up staying for the night there at Grand Aston. The pillars was made probably for wedding gala. The lighting made it quite eerie, I must say. The hotel lobby is on different side, which is a typical business hotel lobby, plus colorful lightings as décor. I saw people taking selfie pictures there.
The room is basically ok, quite efficient in space uses. Everything functions well there. And clean too.
The hotel is next to the Central Bank building. Across the street is an interesting old post office building and Merdeka Walk, a strip mall for food and entertainment.
Breakfast is quite good, extensive range of food, and the resto has outdoor seats at the terrace.
Oke yg nyaman
Our family loves the Aston - high standards, good rooms, but they still manage to make it feel homely. We usually stay at Aston, but a few weekends ago we went to J.W. Marriott, Medan, just for a change. Bad move. Rooms and restaurant service were not as good quality as Aston - we actually left Marriott during our stay and went to Aston for the buffet dinner because our children like it more!
One of the best 5 star hotels in medan.. with a retro touch of the old medan.. the old medan city hall is loctaed in this hotel
What do you want for a hotel?, nearby to the town, shopping mall, railroad, bus, local transportation, taxi, evening crowd, you can get is easily here
Nice decent hotel in the heart of Medan city
Best hotel choice for travellers with lot of luggage. They offer airport pickup for peace of mind. Or you can also get train station pickup which is just across the hotel for free.
Nice location for rail stationunless you need to cross traffic with luggage.
Simply best gym In a hotel in town! One of the best in Indonesia full stop!!! The room was huge, breakfast layout was great. Overall heaps of fun
Lots of strange quirks in hotel
Lost a star as "concierge" is actually a taxi jailer and can not do anything more. Elevators are weird design - tow different call buttons, which means you are often getting two elevators at same time. It sounds petty but also means many times you wait twice as long for elevator for same reason. Poor labeling throughout. The extensive information book doesn't say where the bars are, breakfast hours or locations?! There is a "nightclub" in the hotel but charges hotel guest
Classy looking and feeling hotel in Medan. Conveniently located close to the train that goes to the now inconveniently located Kuala Namu airport. :)
It has a good combination of old world charm but with newer amenities inside.
Bed = 8/10; a tad on the soft side.
Quietness = 9/10; and that was on Saturday night.
Air Con = 6/10; not bad, but as a Westerner used to snow I'd like to see it be able to get a bit cooler. My "removed" Suunto - is saying 78F (26 Celcius) with aircon on max is the coldest it can go.That's certainly not bad - but I do like it a few degrees colder when trying to cool down from the hot outside.
Shower = 3/10 but could be 10/10. My drain didn't work so the whole floor was soaked BUT if it did work, it had a very nice shower and water that was plenty hot and cold.
Wifi = 7/10
Pros
It has international plugs which is convenient, nice working desk, good aesthetics. There is a convenience store inside the building. Breakfast was good, pool looks nice.
Cons
My room had a plugged shower that flooded as well as the TV was had lots of static probably from a bad cable/connection. (A personal pet peave - when a hotel spends a lot of money on big flat screens, good cable package but nothing is worth watching because the cable is bad!)
