Stayed 6 weeks at UWV for my Divemaster training, traveling solo. The training was really good but what set it appart from the other places I've been at was the vibe of the place There's always something going on, most people who dive there hang out there and it's really one huge group of friends.
I specially recommend Nico, Sofie, Anthony, Mickey and of course Grace, the course director. And Tammy, the chillest, nicest dive shop manager ever.
To all of them, and to all the other divers who made this stay an incredibly good time big thanks and see you soon !
Great vibe here. It's easy to meet people. Best coffee on the island.
My friend and I decided to do our open water certification at Underwater Vision and it was an amazing decision. All of the staff were so happy to help with anything we needed and we could not have felt more welcome. I also have to mention our instructor Anthony. He was very patient, kind, energetic and all around amazing. It is people like him that make a good experience an amazing one. We have now sent many of the people that we met in Central America to Utila and Underwater Vision because of Anthony.
I had an amazing time here! Great people, fun scuba diving, and always something going on! Would recommend this place to anyone trying to have a good time and meet some amazing people! Lots of fish, great weather, patient and funny instructors the list goes on.
Really well run organization with a nice fun area for guests. Specialize in teaching new divers and courses but we did many fun dives with them. Tammy is an exceptional manager, safety is always top of mind. Quick response to needs and requests.
I’m not one to normally leave reviews, however, Underwater Vision has been one of, if not the highlight of my year’s backpacking around South and Central America.
Let’s start with the most important thing, the diving. I came expecting to do my open water and leave. I stayed for 3 weeks and completed 8 qualifications. This is firstly down to the brilliance and passion of the teaching. Instructor Sammy, you’re now a good friend but as far as scuba teachers go I can’t tell you how incredible this guy is - hilarious, passionate, platient, talented and turns you into a technically competent but stylish and skilful diver. Ended up taking his sidemount course - so sick. Instructor Jonny was equally brilliant in my earlier courses and I can say exactly the same for him too, thanks for everything mate and making me fall in love with diving. Having hung out with, dived and partied with all the other instructors or divemasters it really doesn’t matter who you end up with they’re all fantastic people, divers and teachers.
As for the shop - it’s the best on the island. Great equipment, great vibes, clean and comfortable, seems to just attract continually great people, amazing team. All the team are part of the family and live there or within walking distance so there’s no separation between staff and guests which is brilliant. Most people seem to come and stay to do their divemaster even if they didn’t intend to.. I stayed in the dorms and in a private - no complaints. Tammy the owner is also a brilliant woman and is down to earth and approachable so if any problems you can just speak straight to her (more often than not there’s no problems and you’re just going to see how many free nights she’ll give you!). Perfect place to stay if you want to party till 3am every day or on the other end of the scale in bed by 9pm and diving every morning, or anywhere in between. Also great for couples, single travellers, groups - really has it all! Stuff going on every night - trivia, bingo, movie etc and always food specials. Bar food decent and the specials are always delicious.
Dive sites are the same as all the shops use and are anywhere from 5-25 minutes away, but the boat ride is always fun with Captain Hoover and someone will usually bring some tunes. Regularly had the opportunity to swim with Dolphins between dives. Saw a great great selection of marine life - turtles, moray eels, burrfish, juvenile trunk fish, balloon fish, barracuda, octopus (in the day!!) and so on and so on.
In summary, I wouldn’t go anywhere else (I did my research into other shops and am so happy with my choice of UWV). Keep it up and see you soon, guys.
I did my openwater, advanced and nitrox over here and I have the feeling I could keep on doing other courses as well. Nice family feeling here and awesome instructors. The beach allows you to relax after your dives and the bar is the perfect scène to make some new good friends!
Amazing customer service. Friendliest people around. Safe. Great food.
I can't recommend the IDC at Underwater Vision enough! Grace is fantastic and will make sure you are confident and well prepared going into the IE! UWV has an awesome welcoming atmosphere and you will immediately feel part of the family! The only problem is you may never want to leave
Superb tuition. Excellent kit. We were looked after by Sam and his co-instructors. The safety aspect was well addressed and we felt confident on all our dives. The different dive sites were amazing. It was pleasing to see the instructors put time in to divers who needed a little extra tuition.
Instructors are great but rooms don't have AC or wifi. Shop around lots of options
Friendly staff and very attractive prices, but in my opinion the atmosphere was too much college students orientated, the dive masters did not seem to do a lot to show us things under water, and the procedures did not make me feel completely safe (ex : no-one asked me for an emergency contact details).
Very cleaky. Didn't feel welcome. I think they enjoy partying and getting wasted more than professional diving practices. Probably why the local d**g dealers always hang out here.
Perfect place to do your PADI Open Water or Advanced diving course. All the instructors are very skilled and super friendly. It's the perfect mix between a laid-back atmosphere and a very professional teaching environment. Would totally go there again!
Great place, friendly people, good food, and welcoming vibe. Only thing stopping its getting an extra star was the kitchen (which needs some serious utensils and plates -- maybe a $15 investment!) and the very poor internet connection. (I was unsure why it was so, so poor, as neighboring businesses had connections working great!) If one doesn't care about cooking anything or accessing any connections to the outside world, then no worries!
Amazing instructors that were very professional and friendly. The place has a great atmosphere and it really feels like a small family
Nice place to stay: Cheap and worth full accommodation in Trudy's Hostel. Fun dives sometimes a little frantic (cause too much people on board the dive boat). Food in Trudy's delicious but expensive relatively.
