Everything I could have hoped for - friendly, clean, and quiet. Mel is amazing - she gives you a tour of the place then tells you everything you need to know about the island. She even gave me a free room upgrade because of some booking confusion. Solid WiFi as well. Highly recommend.

Nice relaxing hostel. Has a cool and friendly vibe, and is only a short and affordable bus ride away from West End or coxen hole. It also has a communal kitchen to cook in, restaurant and picturesque pool. Also, the beach across the road is really good for having a quiet beer at sunset. Mel is really helpful and has a wealth of knowledge on what to do in Roatan.

Hello and good day..im giving this hostel five stars..i have stayed in many places but rarely do i find a spot that feels like home..its a warm welcoming atmosphere and a clean enviroment..Mel and her boys live here and interact with guests making you feel as though you've waken up at a relatives house..the kitchen is great and her restaraunt was very good and very cost effective..yes!! I would stay here again and probably will.. Check it out..its a good safe place..

Fantastic hostel. Mel is the perfect host. She gave us tons of information, provided fun day trips, saved us lots of money through her advice and affordable housing and has a nice property with pool and shared kitchen. The location is close to the west end and very close to Sandy Bay beach for a beautiful snorkel. I would certainly stay here again!!!

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME. Very clean and secure rooms. Staying here is like staying with relatives (the ones you like) more so than anything else. Wonderful vibe and great people. DELICIOUS FOOD TOO!

I absolutely love this place. Mel (The owner) has a way of making this place feel more like a family home with rotating members. The place itself is awesome. Mel has a bunch of little touches around the place that makes it feel very homey. I guarantee you'll have a tough time leaving.

Great value! Friendly staff. Keep in mind it's a hostel not a resort. Small restaurant on site. Pool was nice. Courtyard was relaxing. It's just a block off the main road. Rooms are safe to leave your things in. Safe area to walk around in. Easy to catch a cab or bus from the main road. Only 3 of the rentals have air conditioning option ( I recommend it) Owner lives on site is is very attentive to your needs and questions.

Nice hostel, lovely staff and it was very clean. Close to a snorkel place, you can rent gear for 5 dollars. The owner cooks dinner every night, and you can join in for 6 dollars. Has a kitchen, book exchange, swimming pool.

My wife and I love staying in hostels, for the informal atmosphere and the fun of meeting fellow travellers from all around the world - we actually met in a hostel 8 years ago! For our week-long trip to Roatan, we needed a base of operations from which to explore the island, scuba dive, snorkel and relax. Roatan Backpackers' Hostel proved the perfect spot.
We decided to stay in one of the hostel's self-catered apartments, which meant we had two bedrooms (one of which we filled with luggage and diving/snorkelling gear), a cute little kitchen and our own bathroom. The king-size double bed was comfier than our bed at home, and we had a big balcony/porch, equipped with a hammock and overlooking the pool. The hostel also has smaller suites and dorms, but as a couple travelling with a bunch of luggage (rather than backpacks) the extra space was perfect.
We met a bunch of awesome people also staying in the hostel, several of whom we ended up exploring the island and scuba diving with. Everyone was friendly, relaxed and had interesting stories to share. The hostel has some great common areas, including a pool, sun-loungers and a little restaurant, so it's easy to meet other guests. We were fortunate to be around for the hostel's awesome birthday party, featuring a live reggae band, and the guests and hosts often go out together for drinks and dancing. The hostel has deals negotiated with some local businesses, including a big discount at Octopus Dive School for guests.
We've stayed in a lot of hostels over the years, and the thing that makes Roatan Backpackers' stand out to us was our fantastic host, Mel. From the moment we booked, Mel went out of her way to help us out, from arranging a driver to pick us up from the airport to hooking us up with a rental car to explore the island. With Mel's help we quickly got to know how Roatan works, and it was great to know we had someone to ask silly questions about things like transportation, banks and activities. On the last day we found ourselves short on cash (ATMs are in scarce supply on Roatan) and she was even kind enough to give us a free ride to the airport!!response / report this review -

Stayed here for two weeks, loved it. There was a really nice mix of older and younger travelers, and its a small enough hostel that everyone got to know each other well. Rooms are clean, water is hot, no problems whatsoever. Mel, the owner, is great, she really looks out for you and helps you have a great time doing whatever you're on the island to do (which for most people is diving with a little bit of partying). Can't wait to go back!

Hospitality = 5/5 - Mel and Cecilia are very welcoming, helpful and wonderful hosts! They provided us with clean towels and very useful info on the island. Location = 4/5 - Sandy Bay is a nice safe area. You can take a cab or bus to West End for $1 to $2. Cleanliness = 5/5 Wifi = 3/5 - Connection comes and goes depending on where you are on the property. But, you should be out enjoying the island! Atmosphere 5/5 - We met some amazing people at this hostel. Thank you come again? = YES, come again!

Loved it here, and it's on the list to return too (and not just the island). Came for 1 week, stayed for almost 3 weeks. Meet some great people while there, Mel is always happy to provide anyone with information about the island, where to go, how to get around, and what's the best way.
Mel provides the little extras to make your stay even better, has snorkelling gear on site, bottled water, organize the cheapest car rentals, assist with finding the best tour guides, discounts for Scuba Diving, laundry, towels if you need them, the list really goes on and on.
The hostel has a very cool layout, with half of it up front with the kitchen and loft rooms (usually a good place to find everyone socializing), the pool and patio in the back, access to the lizard lounge, and 2 extra places for large groups or families travelling to Roatan.
You won't be disappointed with your stay at this hostel, you have a new friend waiting for you in Sandy Bay, Roatan!response / report this review
