good place for tourists. a taste of Hong Kong
goose crispy, black egg with ginger are good.
put some sugar and serve with black egg is good.
The restaurants have operated for 60 years since 1958. No doubt, it is one of the top 5 Roast Goose in Hong Kong depending on different rankings. In old days, they served fresh roast goose. But now, all goose are centrally slaughtered in order to minimize the chances of birds flu in Hong Kong. Having said that, Yue Kee still serve tasty and Juice Roast Goose. I went twice in the last 6 months with my family. You might need to queue during public holidays or Sundays. Lunch seems to be less busy.
Fantastic roast goose! Nice and friendly services!
Though price might be more expensive than the others shop nearby.
Shun Tseng crispy roast goose. This is probably the most well known restaurant for this item.
Very local restaurant that, as the name implies, specializes in roast goose. However, they offer a variety of other dishes, which in my opinion were better than the goose. I went with my in-laws during Chinese New Year, but at 3pm. The place was not crowded, and the service was prompt. We got half a goose, some tofu, some vegetables and two dishes with beef (we wanted one with chicken, but they were out). The beef was surprisingly good and tender. We had beef cubes with vegetables, and braised beef with satay noodles, very yummy. We also had deep fried squid, which was also yummy but a bit salty. My only two complains: first, although the food was very good, it was a bit on the oily side, and thus it felt quite heavy afterwards. And second, we asked for Iron Buddha tea (one of my favs), but they only had just their one kind, so, no options there. Worth a visit, with a subsequent stroll along Angler's beach.
Had an extravagant lunch which was really tasty! The staff was very helpful! Tried the goose which was really amazing. The best part about this place was the staff was quite aware of what they serve and how it is prepared! Had a great time there with great lunch😊
Although not the oldest roast goose restaurant in the area, it’s still pretty old. I was told it’s the best in the area. One goose is very big. We finished one with 6 people. It’s normally eaten with a kind of noodle called Lai-fun.
It is a nice experience. Quite a good 'local' experience, with no fancy decorations. The bustle in the ambience is enjoyable and part of the experience. The goose itself was ok. Not the best that I have eaten. But at least this one had more meat than the usual cheaper places. But overall, would rate this goose 7/10. The meat was there but not succulent and tender. It was a bit tough. The skin was somewhat crispy, but there still was a lot of fat to navigate through. The trip out to the restaurant requires a car/taxi or good local knowledge of the bus network - not the most convenient place to reach. Overall, worth a visit at least once in your time at Hong Kong
Traditional Chinese roasted goose. Delicious! This place is famous for their roasted goose. Properly done, the goose should have a crispy skin, a layer of fat that separates easily from the skin, then tender and juicy meat that is flavourful. This is one of the best places to enjoy this delicacy in Hong Kong.
Additionally, other parts of the goose can be served up as other dishes. The general populus in China were previously quite poor and so typically you will discover that any edible animal is thoroughly utilized so that nothing goes to waste. The same traditions continue today.
This is a hidden gem, with the best roast goose around. It's off the beaten path but very crowded on the weekends. It's worth the effort, just go!!
Easier to have a table for 2. Excellent goose!! We ordered the lower body which is super juicy with melting fat! Not very healthy but delicious! Other canton dishes are above standard.
Very local restaurant that u can expect noisy enviornment. Staff are nice and helpful, english menu availble (not much pictues).
They own 2 carparks, but peak hour would be full. Can easily find a parking lot opposite the road.
Can walk around the village at the end of the alley, old village is right behind the restaurant.
The Golden Goose
Yue Kee is popular restaurant amongst the local HK population for one reason. It has the best goose in the whole of HK. This was my first experience with this creature and I asked myself would what was good for the goose be good for the gander? Here I must apologize to the reader as I spent quite some time looking up goose sayings.. including Goose from Top Gun.
Yue Kee is not an easy place to get to unless you have a car and even then it is not an easy place to park as it is very popular. If travelling by car it is about 30 minutes and if by public transport it is 1 hour 30 minutes. Parking here was a long and arduous job for our friend who was waiting 30 minutes while we were getting the table. OK that might have killed the golden goose but keep reading
As expected we ordered half a goose. It was like duck with the skin being crispy and the meat being dark, I would say it also tasted like duck but it was much more moist and with more fat.. but not so much that it was like eating the globules of beef brisket fat. It did not taste gamey as duck sometimes taste and was excellent with the sweet plum sauce that they provided. I am no quite sure which I prefer right now. duck or goose.
We also ordered some sweet and sour pork which was correctly cooked in a batter before being covered by the sweet and sour pork. It was a bit hard to the bite but was very meaty with some bone. I would have personally preferred if the pieces were smaller. The aubergine with tofu was simply amazing. The aubergine had soaked in the garlic and oils to embellish the taste and the tofu was soft pillows mixed in with the aubergines. We also ordered some rice noodle soup in a shell soup that was a traditional accompaniment for goose. Also some fried sechuan prawns that were boldly standing in a bed of onions and chilli. Oddly the prawns which were coated in a flour base and fried were not spicy. It was fresh with the fried exterior complementing the meaty interior. One thing I do dislike though are those sechuan peppers which have a sour and intense flavour to them.
We left feeling full with a bag of leftovers and walked to the car.. sadly it was to be another 15 minutes before we could leave due to the heavy parking congestion in the area. However this gave us some time to look at the small Chinese temple nearby and enjoy a cultural show of Chinese Opera with puppets. This in itself was a wonderful experience and I got quite a bit of cultural experience on the night. Sadly they were a travelling group so who knows what show will be nearby next time.
This restaurant has rightfully appeared on the Michelin guide. I would say that if you are a foodie and visiting HK then you should try to traverse a bit further to get the real Goose "Its time for the big one"
Best roast goose in town! Crispy outside juicy inside! Plus it's pretty good value just 600 something for a whole extra large one (2 plates of the one in photo)
Other dishes are nice as well. Not super crowded on weekdays. The only offset is it's too far from central and remember to book ahead
Roast goose is delicious. Seafood is nice and fresh. Tea is standard. Get in early on weekends.
Roast goose was a bit overcooked today but flavour still good. Probably underrated are their seafood, good fresh local seafood and cooked just right.
The roast goose is ok, you need to wai for the table aruoud 30 mins if you have not made a reservation for dinner.
Very authentic food fare. No other branches because the owner wants control over the standard of the food.
Was skeptical about this restaurant initially, but my friend strongly recommended Yue Kee's roast goose.
There wasnt even any signages along the main road near the location.
The number of Michelin's award affirmed that this restaurant was indeed a gem.
Other than the well-acclaimed roast goose (which needed no further description), there are also a variety of other chinese dishes which I had not tasted elsewhere.
Average spending, a Whole roast goose is about HKD540. A larger goose costs about HKD 600+.
We ordered 8 other dishes other than the goose.
10 of us almost went into food-coma after wiping out the sumptuous feast. Total damage: approx HKD1880. Very worthwhile!
It is not really accessible as there are no MTR stations nearby. We took taxi from Mong Kok MTR, took us about 20mins car ride (HKD120).
The roasted goose is very good but other dishes are just ok.
Great goose! Our Taxidriver told us to go here and it was amazing!
Everything from the goose is used starting off with a soup.
Abit hidden away but that just makes it even better.
Yue Kee Roast Goose Restaurant is one of the best Roast Goose I have eat in Hong Kong. There is no nearby subway station here, you got to take bus or taxi to come to this small town.
Excellent food. The squid is soft and tender, goose is wonderful. Steamed grouper with soy sauce superb. Also liked the Shrimp with garlic - looooots of garlic.
We were a bit disappointed, it was not as good as we thought. We ordered half the goose, maybe because not whole goose so not as fresh and hot as they should be?! So sad went all the way to 深井 and be disappointed. 😢
